Did you get those hinges from America or fabricate them yourself? either way they look brilliant and your ingenuity is fantastic.

They were made but not by me. I had them fabricated by a metal work company from drawings that I gave them.

I have tried to apply the best bits of things I have seen that other people have already done. I guess that's what mini's are all about!

Cheers,

Luke.

I did but you are quite correct that they are very stiff, so I am looking for an alternative at the moment.

i got some that are 180nm approx 18kg and they feel a tiny bit too much i could have done with the 150nm approx 15kg but they were too long i have fitted bigger plates at the top of the struts 150 X 150mm and they seam to spread the load quite well i will send some more pics when i have them adjusted properly

Quick update.

I wasn't that happy with the way I had attached the bracket to the fibreglass flip-front for the hinges/struts. I had used fibreglass to bond them on but after some careful thought I decided to take them off and make some spreader plates.

I cut some sheet metal to size and shaped it to the curve of the wing part of the flip-front. At this stage I was marking out the postion of the brackets ready for welding.

I tacked them into place a then began welding them into place.

Please don't laugh too much at my welding skills. This is only really my second attempt to ever weld anything significant and with that in mind, I don't think I have done too bad a job!?

The next task is to bond them into place, Evo Stick, Tiger Bond ??? and then fibreglass over them to make it all look neat.

Luke.

Long overdue update but not too much progress to speak of.

Anyway, here is my shiny new Carbon Fibre speedo binnacle that arrived this morning. It is an exact copy of my original and was made by carbon weezel. What do you think?

Here is my orginal with the clock fitted. I will get around to fitting the clocks into the carbon version soon.

I bonded the new flip-front spreader plates onto the fibreglass flip-front and fibreglassed over them so that I can paint them and hopefully you won't be able to notice that there is metal underneath.

I've got a few more photos to take of my progress and I will get it updated on here soon.

I paid £130 for it but I did provide the original for the mould to be made. If you're interested I would suggest getting in contact wih Nick at Carbon Weezel.

It's perhaps a bit expensive for what it is but I'm really happy with it and I think it represents good value.

I have just finished fitting the clocks into the carbon binnacle. I had to take a dremel to the holes and enlarge them slightly and I now have a sore throat from the carbon dust but I think you'll agree that it was worth it!!!
