Did you get your laptop sorted? Did you manage to get the files off your HDD?

My Dad has a Dell laptop that has started having trouble loading up, initially he was able just to restart it a couple of times and it would load, then a couple of times he had to go through diagnostics to get it to load, then it wouldn't load at all (this is over 2-3 weeks). I looked at it quick last night when it couldn't find the disk drive at all, he said it didn't even show up in BIOS, after I'd taken it out and plugged it back in, it still wouldn't boot, but it did show up in BIOS. Now it doesn't again.

He also tried the Xp CD, which didn't work either, now I'm not sure if this means the controller has gone and it can't read from any drives, or whether the CD failed because it was unable to install the temp installation files to a HDD.

I've got a 2.5">IDE adapter, so going to have a bit more a play later.

the had to reinstall windows or sumin, they gave me it back before christmas, when i got home it wasnt quite right, apearance was for best performance (or as i used to describe, looks like windows '98) when i went to take it back they were closed :dontgetit: took it back few days ago, they said they would have to reinstall it again because somthing about graphic card or somthing else...i forget. they had problem finding correct drivers for hardwear because of vista aswell, bloomin built in webcams n stuff
had a thing about the file, i thought they werent there but i forgot i kinda have 2 storage areas, it was put on the one iv NEVER used before so when i took it into the shop he made me look like a fool lol (my friend said his dad would normaly pull all the stuff off and back it up on a disk to hand to them)

one things for sure, im not paying for the 2nd time for them to fix what they didnt do correctly in the 1st place and mums getting annoyed im constantly on her laptop lol

Format and/or reload OS fixes everything.. Apart from data loss, which should really be backed up. :dontgetit:
