I have a rc40 thats got a rustyish tip and im wondering instead of trying to get rid of all the rust can i take the chrome off and paint it silver or say black ?

Can i use manifold spray paint on the tip ? Do i wire brush the chrome off ?

Heres a pic

No reason why you can't paint it. I'd use a wirebrush first then wet&dry to get it smooth - then use some a couple of coats of slightly thinned hammerite to get a smooth finish.

But to be honest it'll probably look pretty poo if you paint it. I reckon you should use gradually finer grades of wet&dry and lots of elbow grease - it'll give you a real nice polished finish - not quite chrome but it'll look nice

What grade of wet/dry should i start at ??

I like your idea of making it look abit polished rather than painted !

The rust will probably come off with a bit of very fine grade wire wool, then polish it up with autosol. Should come up like new, just you'll have to polish it quite regularly, otherwise the rust will just keep coming back.

Just buy a chrome tailpipe trim, they cost about £3-5 and will just slip over...job done
