Hi All,

I'm sure you've all heard this before but i cant seem to get a definitive answer on this topic so my apologies for posting this in the first place.

Firstly i'm new to the mini scene, i bought my mini last week in great condition however i'm not sure what model i've got. it's a 1999 reg with a 1275cc engine, i've been told it could be a 'mini 7' but this means nothing to me, i've provided a picture so if anyone knows it'd be great if you could let me know!

Secondly i'm interested in fitting new wheels and have gotten mixed advice on these. I'll be putting on sportspack wheels but i'm not sure how big i can go without cutting the arches. I've been told i can pop off the arches that are on it at the moment (photo below) and fit most wheel sizes by simply putting on a wider arch, no cutting at all. others have told me i'll need to cut them for anything bigger than 5x13. What is the largest wheel i can DEFINITLY fit under the stock arches? also with the model i have will i need to cut the arches to fit new ones or can i simply put wider ones on if i choose a larger wheel? I'm also conscious of the mechanical implications of putting bigger wheels on (wearing the bearings or something like that??) so i'd like to keep it as reliable as possible.

The wheels on it that the moment are 4.5x12 as far as i can recall, it looks like there's a lot of room in there for 6x13's...???

Cheers!

The main reason for cutting arches is not how big the wheele is (10 inch, 12 inch or 13 inch) it is how wide the wheel is.
i had 12 x 5 and they did fit fine, i then put 12 x 6 on and i had to cut the arch as when i turned the wheel would rub.
the other reason for cutting is if you lower the car the movement of the suspention may make the wheel rub.
so aslong as you dont lower the car and you dont go wider than 5 inch then you can put what evenr you wnt on.

That is a Classic Mini Seven, the pepperpot alloys give it away. It's a limited edition model which I believe was made in fairly small numbers. The name is a throwback to the Austin Se7en (the original Mini and a 1930s Austin). I would keep it in it's current condition as it would fetch quite a bit if you sold it as all original.

I got it for €7400 (£5330) with 7500miles on the clock, that sound about right or would it be worth more? Thanks for the post

At that mileage and condition, I'd say you could probably sell it for around £6K.

if you want to fit sport pack arches unless you want it to look silly and over arched you need to fit a 6 or 7 inch wheels

but to fit a wheel of this size you must trim the arch

you need to decide weather you want sports pack arches and trim the wing or fit group 2 arches and stick to your wheels or something 4.5-5 inches wide and not have to trim the wing

unless you want to fit a 1 1/2 spacer to your alloys

but you will still need to trim the arch this way

I decided against cutting the arches and went with 5X12 sportspack wheels, i want to keep her original and although i do like the big wheels and arches, i think they're pretty slick if they're done up well without the arches, i'll update pictures when all body work and paint is done.

so what arches do you need for what size wheel? if you got 13x7's for instance what arches would you need and how much cutting do you need to do?

13x7 would need Group 5 arches at least, might be able to get away with Sportspack arches. Not sure how much cutting you'd need to do.

Would 5.5x12 Ultralites be alright for W+P's ?
And will there be any cutting needing done ?

Cheers
Scott
