I used Rain X on the outside windows I followed the instructions very carefully but they looked smeared any tips on what to do next

You probably put too much on i guess. Or the cloth you were using wasn't clean and you've just smeared it everywhere rather than buff it off like you need to.

Wash it off and try again with a decent dry cloth.

i've found for first use it does take a bit of elbow grease when applying, also found it works best after second application.

I bought the rain x twin pack thing, (rain x and glass cleaner) and found the glass cleaner to be useless, was just smearing. I much prefer auto glym glass cleaner then the rain x treatment

Cheers posted the same question on other mini sites got a great link it recommends using paper towels so Friday I plan to start again.
This time just using towels instead of a buffing machine

Hi yeah you have to really clean the grease and dirt off first by lifting it off with bounty kitchen towels then apply the rain x thinly and apply another coat when it is dry buffing between coats should be ok then

ive got that rain x stuff and doesnt seem to work on my mni after 2 usues.. also.. my cars painted in celly paint and ive noticed if i get it on the paintwork it rubs the paint off.. be careful mini users!!.lol

Rain-X works. Believe me, we use it at work to keep camera filters free of fog on damp misty sets or in underwater housings or splashbags. Can't be doing second takes on stunts because a lens got fogged.

It has to be applied exactly right and frankly how you would get it to work on a whole windscreen I don't know. The glass must be absolutely, scrupulously, spotlessly clean first. Clean it very well with meths as it doesn't leave any residue and make sure you are using a rag that doesn't leave any dust behind. Use a lens cloth if you can get one. Then clean it again. Then apply the first coat of Rain-X EXACTLY as it says on the bottle, and dry it with a hair dryer once it is well thinned out enough that it won't run. Then do another coat.

The problem is that you now can't touch your windscreen, at all, ever. Touching the Rain-X at all will smear it and mess up a surprisingly large area. How you'll use it on the outside I don't know because the wipers will destroy the film pretty quickly and the screen wash will disolve it. It'll get bugs and stuff stuck all over.

Following on from Dan's advice. I would be tempted to use it on the side and rear windows, but I don't see how it would work on the front windscreen either. I've heard it smears when your windscreen gets dirty and you use your wipers!

ive never had a problem with it on the screen, just drive fast enough for the water to bead off! also apply to the wiper blades, nevre had a problem doing it like that

VW camper owners us it on the front windscreen and works well

air cooled campers have very bad heating and the front screen often mists up with out using something like rainx

I use it religously too, excellent stuff! After a few applications it gets better, applying to the wipers helps too. Just make sure your microfibres are totally clean!

I'm a complete meguiars fan and their glass cleaner is the best i've found.
