People with computer knowledge...

Im wanting to set-up our cable broadband onto a wireless network so that the wife can use the normal PC for her work and I can use the laptop for doing anything but work at home.

Would I just need a wireless router and then an adaptor for each item?

Would this be the basics and then either a 2nd USB adaptor or card for the laptop?

Please no technical replies!!

Looks like the job, i have a wireless modem/router and wireless card in the PC but you could use a USB adapter and laptop i prefer wireless card if it is not build in already, that way you keep the USB free for other uses.

If the main PC is near the cable modem (which presumably it is) then you can use one of the wired Ethernet ports on to connect the PC to the router and only use wireless for the laptop. A card adapter is a better choice for the laptop as has been previously stated but most newer ones come with wireless built in, in which case all you will need is the wireless router you linked to.

Oh - you need to make sure your cable modem has an Ethernet port - I think most of them are, but best to make sure!

Preeeeety much what everyone else has said is correct.

Only advice I would offer at this point is LINKSYS! Both Router and WIFI adapter. No cheap stuff - trust me, you'll thank me!
Oh, and PCMCIA ("PC Card") is a better choice than USB for the laptop, but the Linksys USB products are quite good. "Built in" wireless on laptops......they work (sometimes) but they do tend to be "cost performance" items (Low cost......Low performance).

That is all. >_<
