hi i have a rover a/c that i would like to install into a mini with a 3+3 clock dash. Can i just connect the a/c ducting with the duct work from the heater? what would i need to do that? Or will i have to build something to mount the a/c vents?
thank you

The original Rover airconditioning unit for the Mini is sited next to the heater matrix in the passenger side. It has an opening towards the dash behind the glovebox for the air to go through. You could probably get away with connecting the a/c to the side vents, but I think it's very likely you have to cut a hole trough the bulkhead for the vents to go through as it is very tight. And you probably loose the fresh air function from the eyeball vents aswell.
An alternative would be to keep the original Mini a/c bits but fit a universal blower unit, mounted under the heater. It can be done, I reckon...

i would suggest having the a/c blow through thw windscreen vents aswell as any other vents.
In my Accord, if the windows fog up, just switch the air con on (wether the car's heating is set for hot or cold) and within seconds, all the windows are clear.
Would help quite a bit in a Mini

Not being funny, but if you are asking what I would consider is a reasonably easy thing to do, how are you going to install and drive the compressor, condenser, all the associated pipework, get it leak tight and then charge it with refrigerant, which I might add, is a specialist operation (those self charge cans will not be on the shelf much longer if they still are!! Kyoto Protocal and all that)
*whoopsie, sorry, you are in Hawaii, it may be easier for you to get this thing charged with refrigerant, than it would be over here, i dont think the Kyoto protocol includes The Americas, lol, not for long, he he.*
Not saying you cant do it or it wont work, just looking at the practicalities when you are asking others what to do about routing ducting, when its the least of your worries??
I, by the way, am a Refrigeration technician and know the complexities of these things

im not installing the a/c myself. i have a mini builder in the uk. i just need ideas on how to duct the a/c. im thinking of getting rid of the heater, to fit the factory rover vents there. can the blower unit under the glove box be flipped to face down or to the side? that way air blows to the floor or be ducted to where the heater is.

mine is installed like that, with some efforts it can be made look pretty.
For futur, i'll see if the whole unit can fit in place of the heater
