Hi all,

A little story for you - I'm sure it's familiar to many of you.

A call from my Sister started it all off.

"Marks Mini has failed its MOT and he's going to sell it - You have got first shout, are you interested?"

Big fail list - 'complete on a seperate sheet if necessary' springs to mind!

A borrowed trailer, a trip to the other side of the country, exchange of £££s and £120 of fuel later (Disco V8 you see) and The 1988 Black Mary Quant was sat on my drive.

Take the interior out (mmmm..... nice zebra crossing Mary Quant interior) and look at the garage floor through the sill!

Round to the boot, hmmm more garage floor there.

Think I'll have to get some more metal and a MIG welder for this.

Rear subframe off, cleaned and painted - couple of patches and it will be OK.

The plans?

BIG wheels. I Like the look of some 7x13 Supalite deep dish.
Group 7 arches
De-seam front and back. (in time)
Keep the stripy seats. (something a bit different)
Checkered roof (not so sure now)
Alloy interior door handles.
Amp and Kenwoods fed by my Mp3 player.

First though weld, weld, and more weld.

Got to be roadworthy for L2B in May 'because I've already got my tickets booked!

Lets see how it goes anyway!

Have fun out there,

Scott.

a 998 isn't it? mary quant designers are quite rare apparently!500 in white and 500 in black!

if restored to concourse it COULD fetch quite a bit of money, but who knows!

i bought a white one for 50quid planning to restore it but it was too far gone! ah well

Its just a 998. Hoping to keep it that way actually. I fancy the challenge of giving it a few tweaks over the coming months.

First up will be a stage 1 kit - LCB exhaust, filter and inlet manifold.

Next, thinking about carburation - maybe twin SU's, maybe a webber? I've got a couple laying around.

Following that, who knows? I've certainly been known to do a bit of 'head grinding and porting and polishing in the past. Should be relatively straight forward using Dave Vizzards 'Bible' as a guide.

Hoter cam probably.

See how quick I can get a 1 litre to go!

Failing that, Metros are cheap nowadays, could drop a 1275 in it. Wouldn't that spoil the challenge though?

I did deliberate whether to keep it standard as a Quant, but thought i would have more fun 'playing' with it. I'll be keeping the bits anyway, so it could always be put back to normal.

Scott.

Hmmm, I think a webber and even twin SUs would be overkill on a 998, maybe just a HIFF38?! Or will it already have one, I'm unsure of the change over date? The cylinder head mods sound cool.
