Hey guys,

I'm at work,
but going to check my mini at lunch time,

as last night and this morning getting to work, was bad.

It starts fine, runs allright.
but now when I put the choke in, or even when I leave it out...

When I put my foot down, it stuggles. when I stop in traffic, it konks out... :D
its lacking power at times, and Need to look at lunch.

where shall I first check?

(backfires, and I think its the carb, and exaust system,)
I'm going to change the system in a week or so,

But I think the carb is playing up.
its the small mini (C**p) carb.

Need to put my big metro one on it. and RC40 system.

do you think its my carb thats playing up? or something else...
cheers

Always start with the ignition. Check the connections, have a wipe round with a dry cloth and look at the points gap and condition for starters.

Carb faults are much rarer and tend to be progressive.

I had a quick look,
I drove it around the car park.

Checked my points, sparks, all firing's alright.
When I start it up, and give it a rev.
Its fine.

but when I pull away, put my foot down hard.
it really is scary, loss of power,

Tried to increase a bit of mixture with me carb,
but still he has got a cold.

might try and change my carb and exaust system the weekend. (needs it)

still same problem.

Mine's doing something similar ... the lack of power was due to damp ignition, but that's now fine. My idle's equally temperamental and likes to drop to almost stalling, even with choke full out. Give it a few blips of throttle, and it tennndddsss to sort itself out - I put it down to the cold, but like you - think it may be the carb.

yea.
I was thinking its the cold,
but my number plate protects most of the water getting there.

I have had no problems with heat or water...

its my carb, its C**p same with my manifold.
not enough fuel getting through, and could be dirty inside there.
as it likes the choke out, but sometimes even that doesnt help.

best change it the weekend.

I'm scared to drive home though.
and I'm bored at work, so I really wana be working on it.

Oil in the dashpot? Could be cold thick oil is making it lean out, but should improve as it warms up under the bonnet and more choke would also help.

Sounds like the mixture ent correct and also have u got the right needle in the carb?, i just put a new carb on mine because my carb had gone. i had to get that to a rolling road and mine drove like a pile of C**P but the man modified the needle to suit my car. really good and well worth it and cost me all of £50. Money well spent if you ask me!

where did you go for the rolling road?
If I put my RC40 on, and other carb, id like to get it tuned correctly.

£50 is well worth it, if the guy knows what he is doing.

think I'll look into that after Christmas, but need to find one near peterborough :D

'S exactly what Monty's doing at the moment. Give him 10 minutes to warm up and he'll run like a Greyhound though.

Minis don't do cold, damp weather very well at all.

Well...

mini wouldn't start this morning,
at all! and its been fine starting, never had probs with it.
I tried most things, but ended up it flooding it, so stopped.

even if I got it started, would have been bad to drive it.
so need to change carb and exhaust tomorrow.

hopefully its just that,

I had similar problems with mine as well, I think it’s down to the cold because it was never like this before the cold weather set in :dozing: I leave the car for quite a few minutes with the choke almost fully out just to war up. does the trick for me :- all it needs is a bit of TLC and some warming of the engine.
