hi guys,
just wondered what type of paint the halfords mixed paint is,, iv just received a tub of some paint i ordered but i am unsure whether it requires a lacquer. am i correct i saying it deffo isnt 2 pack (due to the laws).. can anyone shed any light????

The stuff they do in rattle cans I have no idea what it is, but when I sprayed my moped with it I laquered it.

it isnt rattle cans that i have ordered,,, i have ordered a half litre tin of custom mixed paint.

Give it a wiff, most probably cellulose if it's for spraying, ask Halfords they should know - any info Coshh info on their website?

iv just realised i bought cellulose thinners,, so thats that part of the question answered,, just needs to know whether you have to lacquer celly,, and how many coats should give sufficeint coverage???

yeah it'll be celly. It'll probably need lacquer, wouldn't do any harm anyways, would probably need about 3 coats if your using aerosols.

Would it be ok to spray without lacour?

im not using aerosols im using a gun n compressor,, so about 3 coats of paint or lacquer??

If it flats ok after 2 coats why add a third?

Oh sorry if you're spraying it with a gun and a compressor properly, you'll need as much colour as it takes to cover, and then 2 coats of lacquer. 1st one should be a three quarter coat, wait for it to flash off, (goes tacky) then put on a full coat.

In answer to dog's question, if the colour dries glossy, it doesn't need lacquer, if it dries matt, then it does.

Although we barely ever use celly anymore, when we do, we tend to laquer it because celly loses its shine and needs polishing quite regular.

If you laquer it, it stays shiny and just needs washing and a gentle polish like 2k.
