Right then, i have a real problem with my 1275 engine, it has a cooper s head on it. i have never had it running properly and i have run out of things i can think it might be. The head has been totally re-built, and obviously new gaskets and so on... When i go to time it up with a strobe, i have to advance the timing by agout 30degrees, it needs ti be advanced about 10 for it even to fire. i have taken the dizzy out and made sure the spindle is in the right place, could this be that the last person who owned it has put say a turbo cam in it and its getting way to much fuel?
Literally and suggestions welcome!!!

Was it running ok with this head on before? I'd say the fueling is out and it requires a change of needle and rolling road session.

Simple
(1) take off rocker cover and hand crank engine over in correct direction of rotation untill no:s 1 and 2 valve are fully closed ie just rocking this gives you firing on no: 1 piston
(2) remove distributor cap and make a mark on block where rotar is pointing with chalk or white paint
(3) put cap back on and loosen dist bolt and turn dist untill No: 1 lead is in line with mark on block remove cap and turn dist untill rotar arm points mark ie (fine tune) and tighten dist bolt
(4) refit rocker cover and fire up engine and fine tune with strobe light
Good luck.....................

Just remember number 1 cylinder is at the radiator end and not at the gearbox end.

also, if it does have a turbo cam, fueling isn't that much different, turbo cams are designed to have a longer exhaust duration to allow more gasses out to spin the turbo.
