Hi all

Just a quick post about my mini that ive given a complete make over on!! Its been off the road since April when the rad blew a hole and been in the posession of Slark and the body shop since July 5th and now he is back!!

http://img.photobuck...yst1/bertie.jpg

So its had a carbon fibre roof, boot, doors, flip front parcel shelf, bumpers and wing mirrors along with plastic windows all round and then a bare metal re-spray in Vauxhall VXR Arden blue.

http://smg.photobuck...ent=bertie4.jpg

Right, engine stuff. Well i already had a massive spec engine built in Jan by MED which cost me just short of £5k and wasnt sure which route to take next. Med were looking to trial a new 8 port, there was the KAD 16v or the super charger. I decided to go down the super charger route and placed an order for the weber kit Stuart does at Vmax. A couple of weeks later it all arrived at Slark for them to fit and tune.

http://smg.photobuck...ent=bertie3.jpg

Then it was off to the body shop to get all the panels and things fitted to include fabricating the bulge for the weber to sit and remove the fuel tank neck from the outside of the car and weld it onto the tank inside the boot aswell as fitting the roof and making the grille fit on the front!!! No easy task!!

http://smg.photobuck...ent=bertie2.jpg

Although it took a very long time to seem to get it all done, it is worthy every penny!! It is running rich at the moment but a trip to Vmax has been booked for the new year to let Stu give it the once over as it cost me three tanks of V-power to travel from Yeovil to Swindon, about 80 miles!!

http://smg.photobuck...ent=bertie5.jpg

The power is stupid, wheel spins in fourth at 60 miles an hour!! This time of year doesnt help either, i know, but that is still silly!! It did 142BHP on Slarks RR and Neil was going on about it doing something through the rev range to do with lb/ft things that he had never seen before and is 'unheard of' to quote Neil!! Sadly i dont know anything about engines or cars and just pay silly amounts of money for other people to do it for me!! lol

http://smg.photobuck...ent=bertieS.jpg

I would like to know how much it weighs now. Before all the work it weighed in at 660KG. It still needs a few more things to get it 'there'. Next up is going to be a set of LSD's and some equal length drive shafts, brakes that stop the car and a carbon dash and digital speedo thing.

http://smg.photobuck...ertieinside.jpg

All in all this year its cost me just over £15k and with some personal stuff thats happened alog the way its made it a very bitter pill to swallow but now i have it back i never want to let it out of my sight!! Im to scared to drive it but want to be out in it for all to see. It really is a stunner. My goal is to have it as a cover car in one of the mags so if anyone can pull any strings i will be a very happy and content man. And it will shut all y mates up!! lol

im sorry if the above seems a bit rushed but please feel free to post up any questions (if you have any) and i will try and answer them as best i can. Also, i dont have access to a computer so got a spare half hour to put this together. Had to send the pics from my mobile to my email address to get them on here!!!!

Anyway. Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings and hope you like the car!!

Johnny

Sorry Alex

The fit is good on the doors and the windows are glued in with some stuff the body shop uses. Strong so they told me. The wing mirrors are from ebay and have a carbon fibre covering although it is a light weight plastic mould. Does the job!! Thing is that the doors being carbon is the weak point as you only have to snap out the frame but im sure my tracker will get the car back!!! lol

mmmmm but would they try! lol, people cant really tell there carbon ey. And with a normal mini it wouldnt be hard to pull the window frame down. What about the opening in the window though? is it possible to slide them from the outside and get to the lock? thinking about puttin poly windows n grp / carbon doors on the 1430.

cheers for the response buddy, careful in that thing!

Thing thing is constantly trying to kill me !!!! Proper attitude problem!! There are no door locks inside to start with and you cant get your hand in round the scoop so in that sense its quite secure

Johnny did you ask MED about charging your car because when i asked them they said it would be almost imposable to get the CR down to run any forced induction?

That is a beast!! I love the mirrors, arches and the colour! Will be intresting to know how much weight you've saved with all that carbon!

There seems to be mixed views about decompression plates - I've heard decompression plates lead to early head gasket failure - any problems with this?
