Which kind of paint to use on subframes? Will regular spray paint work? Or do you use some special paint? Can you leave it in primer state?

Try POR15 from Frosts, better than Hammerite...

I'd use high temp on the front subby :-

Waste of money using Hi-temp on the front subby since heat raises upwards and away from it, it's also insulated from the engine by rubber mounts (if you're still running on rubber) and has a constant flow of fresh air blasted onto it when moving. Hi-temp paint wont really be resistant enough to stone chips.

As syholl said POR15 is great, Hammerite will do though. A few good thin coats will be plenty bullet proof enough rather than one large thick one.

Generally it's the rear subframe that needs protecting more rather than the front one,..

yes it was a design feature of the A series engine to leak oil all over the front subframe to stop it rusting

Hammerite.

2k.

Powder coating.

For subframes Id personally recommend powder coating if you can find somewhere/ afford it (its not that expensive!)

2K is always good, leaves a great finish. More prep involved than sandblasting and powdercoating.

Hammerite. Well, alot of people like it, I dont know why, personally I find it carp. But each to their own!

probably the only way to stop the back subframe from rusting is getting it galved but then it might be distorted >_<
