Hello all!

I currently have a 998cc with a pre-engaged starter motor. However, my new 1275 is non pre-engaged.

I was talking to Dog and he said I just needed to change my flywheel and then I could bolt on my pre-engaged starter?

However, what would be the case of me sticking to a non pre-engaged starter motor? Can I do that? What are the disadvantages?

If not, is changing a flywheel hard?

Thanks!

If you change your flywheel, you will have to also change the clutch system with it. The innertia starter simply isn's as good, it's older technology. The pre-engaged works better. You need to get the ring gear on the flywheel swapped for the right type if you want to change the starter and this is best done by an engineer, if you don't want to swap it then you need to alter the wiring a bit. There is a clutch FAQ by Guessworks that holds lots of info on starter setups.
