Hi ive fairly recently had hi-los fitted to my car and when i set them to the height i wanted the car to sit at (2 fingers could get inbetween my arches and wheels all round) I found I had the problem of my wheels rubbing when carrying passengers or cornering quite fast.

The problem got a little better when i changed my shocks to those 25%uprated ones as my old shocks were scrap, so if i was to fit harder shocks such as gaz or spax do you think it would solve the problem? Ideally i dont want to higher my car if i can help it as i may as well of not got hilos.

Ive also heard on here about tubbing arches what is this and does it make the car lower to the floor or the wheel closer to the arch

Thanks a lot lee

ps. other than the shocks ive got fully adjustable suspension all round if that makes any difference

Edit pic of my car and although it is low at the front the arches only rub art rear mainly could this be because of arches being cut away.

also when cornering fairly fast my car feels like i have quite a lot of body roll will spax improve this as so far these so called 25% uprated shocks are not so uprated in handeling basis thanks again Lee

the only way around this is to cut a raise up the arches

easy on the front a bit more of a job at the back

who ever stiff your going to make the suspension its still going to go up and down

isnt this going to make the body of the car go lower to the floor but the distance between my arch and tyre further away making it the same as a standard distance.

my mate has a mini with 10inch wheels to which the gap between the arch and the tyre is about 1 finger and his wheels dont foul the arches at all is there something wrong with my arches or is it because they are screwed to the lip and not the body as with his group 2's thanks again lee

edit. i know that mini miglia cars are very different to road minis but how do they get away with being so low yet not rub arches

you could fit standard height shocks so the suspension bottoms out and limits its travel

edit. i know that mini miglia cars are very different to road minis but how do they get away with being so low yet not rub arches

because they race on a flat circuit, for mine (which are mini7 spec dampers) they're set on full race track mode i.e. 100% stiffness so they don't bottom out on the arches;

cutting away the metal arch gives more room for the wheel to move inside the arch,

if it was hitting the arch it would snap off, the metal wing just rubs!

You can fit adjustable dampers to stop the wheel moving up and down so much. My mini was pretty low on 10" wheels, and I had Spax adjustables on mine, they were setting REALLY stiff to stop the wheels rubbing on the arches. Still, with people in the back the rear wheels would rub over some bumps.

The stiffer you adjust a damper the more resistance there is to the damper compressing or rebounding, therefore the more force it takes for wheel to go up or down. Get adjustable dampers first, its much easier to change them than to tub your arches! Plus you can sell your uprated dampers to help pay for them.
