I wasn't happy with my previous attempt at repairing the boot floor. So I've chopped it off and done it again.

Posted Image

It looks like the repair panel hadn't been cut straight. I had to chop about an inch of the passenger side arch joint and add some to the drivers side.

Just got the seem welded and ran out of Gas. BOC obviously think that people don't need gas at the weekend, so no more welding until I get another cylinder during the week (rushing home from work as they close at 5).

So I chopped the battery box if. It was too heavy.

Got the new drivers side rear quarter ready to be welded on.

One of the Panel gaps leaves a little to be desired.

Hopefully my new MIG will be here this week and I can get it hot glued on.

My new welder came last week so I got on and stuck the new quarter panel on.

Posted Image
Posted Image

Looks OK at a distance, but I'm not at all happy with the B and C pillars.

Posted Image
Posted Image

It's sat 2-3mm into the door shut and is curved out towards the bottom. I think that will be coming off again in favour of a genuine one. I'll make a decision once I've had a go at fitting the different manufacturers pattern quarter to the other side.

I spent Sunday learning to weld again and generally tidying up the boot floor repairs/modifications. The new welder is completely different to my old one. I guess not being ******* helps...

Just been out and refitted the radius arm to the ream subframe. Hoping to get it back on it's wheels and make a start on the drivers side sills this weekend.

Spun it round and then made a bit of a hole in the passenger side.

New heritage quarter panel is on the way. Looks like I'll be needing another arch closing panel.

You may find a similar problem with the Heritage rear quarters when you offer them up. Both sides of project Erm needed a fair amount of hammer and block action to make the quarters fit well especially along the rear panel to quarter panel flange.

I used numerous vice grips and skin pins to draw the flanges together and then used a panel beating hammer and dolly to get the flanges as close as possible. This also included the small flange behind the arch

The good thing about the heritage panel is they fit up the the B and C post so no need to add any metal.

Thanks. Plans have changed a lot, but for the better I think. Still a fare way from paint. I'm going to build the car up before it gets painted. I don't want to have to drill holes in a freshly painted shell. The colour is a secret :goaway:

As for the cosmics, they're sat down my cellar gathering dust. I guess I'll sell them on when I get round to it.

Just had a read through and I've gotta say this is a real interesting project. Glad you've got back into it, just a shame about the weather just now! It's way too cold to do any work (-10 outside).

Loving the new wheels, you still gonna super charge? Also where did you get that kit to fit the mr2 charger onto an a series?

Sticking to my theme of getting the body finished, I've been looking at the lights.

Had some fancy dan LED bulb replacements made and a complete new pair of clubby front side light/indicator units made.

They illuminate more quickly and use less power than standard bulbs.

For those of you who, like me, are weight obsessed. The front side light/indicator units are 110g lighter per unit

Managed to get a few days in the garage since Christmas. Got the passenger side arch closing panel and a new quarter panel fitted.

Posted Image
Posted Image

Decided to screw the panels to the B pillars. Make sure of getting a good fit and weld.

Posted Image
Posted Image

Also replaced the pattern driver's side quarter for a genuine one.

Posted Image
Posted Image

They both lined up perfectly and where a lot easier to fit than the pattern one. Bit of a relief as I wasn't sure if I'd got the arch etc right. Getting there...
