I am trying to buy an item off ebay but its in Belgium. I need to contact the seller to see if they will ship to the uk. It does not look like he takes paypal. So I need to make a translated message.

Do they speak German or French?

either, and also dutch it depends where he is from, In the north (= Flanders) they speak Dutch (58 % of the population of Belgium). In the south Wallonie, they speak French
In Brussels, they speak mostly French and a minority Dutch (Flemish). Officially Brussels is bi-language (French and Dutch) but in practise this is not true.
Near the German border their is a minority that speak German.
Most of the Belgians have a good knowledge of English its taught as the curriculum. youd be surprised

Ask them, bound to speak enough French to understand 'do you speak French' at the very least.

Thanks for your help. I have sent a message in English. I just hope he reads it before the auction ends.
He will probably get his mates to bid it up, now there's a mad English man bidding lol.

Update. I never got a reply to my message but it says on the listing he will post to Europe.
Anyway I placed the first and only bid in the last 5 seconds and won.
I won it at 50 Euros / £36. my maximum bid was £130. its Christmas again :proud:

It was a brand new turbo housing from a porsche 911/930 very hard to find.

Still got problems. He cannot speak English, French, Dutch, German, polish, Italian or Greek.
One of the messages from him was ''send me money to my bank''
I asked for his bank details and its gone pair shaped in all his replies. I have tried all the above translations and none make sense. Unless he is calling me names using the K word and something about horse boxes.
