Hi there,

I'm looking around to buy me a 4-speed dog box for race use, and now I'm looking to find some reports about the reliability of dog boxes from quaife, kad and swiftune. Which one of them is the strongest for race use ?

I just saw at the website of Quaife that their gearbox is only available from Swiftune. May be that the swiftune's gearbox correspondents to the quaife's one ?

All you need then is a straight cut transfer gear set, that is what makes the majority of the whining noise. :dontgetit:

Straight cut and dog engagement are two different things, but the later normaly comes with the former. The former you can get with normal synchromesh >_<

The swiftune dogbox is about £1500

The Swifty box is designed by Swifty and made by Quaife.

And not forgetting MED is now producing their own 4 speed dog kits...

and I think 1500 is for the gear kit, you still need to build the box, and there's sod all point in having a dog box without SC drops and at least an X-Pin, ATB or LSD differential...

so say goodbye to 2k plus...

You mean the involute dog box, which is a slightly different design with a lot more dog teeth which are engaged and also, I believe, use the standard selector forks, where as the Swiftune(Quaife) and MED have specially machined selector forks.

The Swiftune is a splined laygear which means you can change ratios without having to purchase a complete new laygear and associated gears, you just by the two gears you need.

Not sure about the MED one, that may too have a splied laygear, but again is slightly different to the Swifty and JKD.
