Hi, my wipers are currently playing up on my '92 Cooper Spi, i now only have the fastest wiper speed and they dont go back to their original position...

I have been told it could be the 'wiper motor park switch' is this right or coiuld it be something else?

where is this part on the car? as i dont want to have to go snooping around for hours to find it lol.

cheers

I have exactly the same problem. In fact it was exactly the same but just with the 'normal' speed. I replaced the motor and park switch and it was fixed, for a short while (about 5 weeks) now I've got exactly the same problem as you even after the brand new switch and motor. I've eliminated the stalk and the earth coming from the motor so I don't have a clue what to try next  surely the switch can't have failed again?

Sorry hi-jacked your thread but I'll be interested to see any further suggestions than checking the park switch, stalk and motor, oh I've even replaced the connectors on the motor for the washer bottle too but that hasn't made a difference.

I used to have a problem like this too. Id push mine to any constant (medium speed/fast speed) they would go back to the normal position fine, but If I pushed it down for a single wipe it used to get stuck wherever I left it..

Then one day, it just started working fine again!!

I know for a fact that you need to grease the rack

Mine were doing the same so I pulled everything out and greased the rack and wheels and now is fine

Mine work fine. Then park in the middle of the screen and refuse to move. Then work fine. Then go slow. Rinse. Repeat.

I'll second that! :)

EDIT: Isnt it so annoying, having to time the windscreen washers, as the wiper arms get in the way! ?=]

Almost 100% sure that these problems listed abouve are to do with the wiper park switch..... if you remove the wipermotor, easy job, and have a look where the wiring loom attaches you will find a VERY corroded termial going into a white switch....... fix it NOW........ change it and look after it.... this pile of corroded copper can melt a wiring loom......so fix it and look after it.

Just my thoughts mind

It's normally to do with park switch/contact box on the wiper motor, i've had it a few times i've found clean the box out of all the grease, make sure all the terminals are clean and free from corrosion and the n re grease it, make sure that you use the right grease or it'll be worse.

I agree with the above that its usually the park switch. Mini spares sell a replacement bit of loom with the connector on, as DaveRob says, this connector usually corrodes quite badly, so its best to replace it.

As has also been mentioned, you need to periodically take the wiper rack out and grease it along with the wheel boxes.
