Clutch Arm And Slave?

About to go to the dump (load of C**p and oil to get rid of) but I decided to check El Odio's (63 Hornet with later A+ engine) non exsistant clutch.
I was thinking it was stuck so I was going to just warm her up, thwack it in gear then start again with the clutch pressed down. I had a prod about and I think I found the problem.
I put a bar on the clutch pedal to hold it down as far as it would go then I lifted the rubber boot of the slave and stuck a zip tie down there to check depth.
The tie went in about half an inch or so which I assume is about when the metal plunger comes in, mine is sorta worn so it dips down from there.
So I wish to be sure, new slave cylinder and clutch arm time?

Right.
Clutch slave cylinder, I pulled the boot off and pushed a length of plastic down to get and idea of depth. As I think the clutch slave is just topping out on me.
The plastic went in around 1/2 and inch before it hit something. I assume the something was the top edge of the plunger in the slave cylinder.

IIRC my clutch slave only pushes the pin about half an inch but the clutch clears fine.

No softness, no spongey-ness.
Just stops.

Just been to the garage and done/checked:
Re-bled clutch, no bubbles, clean fluid,
Checked stop gap,
Backed big throw nut off,
Wiggled and hit the arm,
Arm moves fine, Wiggles in the stop gap area fine.
The only things that have changed are the master cylinder is a rebuilt one, slave is too from El Gordo (82 Mini HL). The clutch worked fine before but I wanted to change them as I had no idea how old they where.
The pedal is holding pressure, as soon as you take the bleed nipple off/open it travels to the floor fine. With the system closes it moves and inch or so then goes solid.
Edit
@Dan, you mean their not meant to have a clip in? The cylinder is from El Gordo (82) and it has the clip in it.
Edit Again,
I just tried the "put in gear and start" method to see if the clutch was stuck.
All that happned was the car tried to drive off in 1st.
So....not stuck.
Edit again again.
melons it, new slave cylinder!

I FIGURED IT OUT! I'M A GENIUS!
I was looking at the clutch with the pedal down and noticed the plunger was hard on the clip in the slave cylinder.
So I took the clip out, then (gingerly) pushed the pedal and got more travel.
So.......YAY! I don't need to strip the clutch.
Whoop.
Squee!
Edit
The plunger was only few mm away from the clip anyway.
