I'm not offended by anyone slagging off my Acer - it's not like I made it :shy:

A bit like TMF... no one replies to a techie problem by just to *woman of ill repute* off the mini: we share our knowledge 'n are all better informed as a consequence.

One thing's for sure with all computer goods, buy it now 'n in a few months it'll be cheaper or better. I'm going to wait another couple of years to replace mine by then I reckon they'll be paying me to take one off their hands  .

Mac's are amazing if you can afford it even the cheapest Mac is amazing but i reckon a price of 500 would get you a good laptop.

I would recommend:

Mac's are only ok if you want to do design work, or standard office stuff (in which case a PC laptop will do just fine at half the cost). For half the stuff a PC is good at, Mac's are.....not as good (to put it friendly).

I just got a Scratch and Dent Dell that I got off the Dell USA store site and my cousin brought it over this Christmas.

Saved about £150 just because its got a tiny scrape.

I was recommented a Dell as they can be upgraded and they are reliable, by the clever IT guy at work.

We solely use Dell at work. Reliable for the most part, but some of the computers have been really poor, especially for the spec. As someone said above, you really need to get the right model with Dell, because some of them are rubbish by design (under cooled mostly).

Do what I did when I was looking to buy Rach's laptop. Find one your really interested in, then search the interweb for reviews, especially customer reviews. I found one Dell laptop, was second hand, but had been upgraded lots, for quite a reasonable price, but then upon searching for reviews, I found 35 pages on one website alone about how that particular model over-heated and crashed all the time!
