Someone asked for info on how I made the trigger wheel I sold recently so here goes.....

Take one Ford Sierra bottom Pulley

Posted Image

Remove the trigger part using heat on the trigger ring and some tyre levers

Posted Image

Trigger wheel laid on to mini 1275 bottom pulley

Posted Image

I fitted it separate to the damper by the following method (excuse the low quality paint drawings) its like a top hat with th top fitting into the damper recess

Posted Image

I got a mate to lazer cut out the following parts from 5mm steel plate

Posted Image

so I ended up with a disc with 5/8 hole in the middle and a ring

then assemble (sorry no photo) trigger ring with lazer cut ring inside then a piece of tube 65mm outside diameter with the disc on top

welded up then run up on a lathe just to tru it all up and painted

Posted Image

picture also shows longer crank bolt from minispares (note the allen key size is 1/2" imperial so not your usuall ones in your toolbox)

Finished item

Posted Image

welding could have been better but I personally ran it up to just over 6000rpm with no problems. If making again I would make the tube part slightly shorter as it was a little long and required the engine mount and lower rad bracket adjusting slightly

And questions just ask

Cheers

Ian

There are piccies, alas Udo's wheel involves some machining so not as home made as I hoped it might be. It is essentially the same as the other wheels you mention if not as pretty. I used a trigger wheels wheel on a turned down crank pulley http://www.theminifo...amp;hl=megajolt

Nothing wrong with them at all - just the cost!

Any 36-1 wheel will work, I've seen web articles ranging from diy folded sheet steel to the SC style bolt on. Each may have its merits but they all do essentially the same job.

I didn't have to run it up on a lathe but while I was at it I thought i might as well, was fairly straight anyway as clamped it when welding and didn't try and weld it all at once and so get it too hot so you could do it without the lathe

This cost me very little when compared to the cost of the SC or KAD ones which was the reason for making it

£10 for sierra wheel
favour off mate for lazer cut bits but could be hand cut
£20 for welding which included the sensor bracket

No, mate moved to Holyhead island to work for a race team or something so dont have access to lazer cut bits anymore and i'm not cutting them by hand
