Hey take a look at this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.u...item=4537005081
birrova a bargain i reckon, i will be limping it home tomorrow. The shell is amazingly good and altho the rest of it is pretty tired i'm gonna swap over the quality bits from my fast but sheddy+rusty 1980 clubman to hopefully produce a quality mini.
Ive got the feeling that its gonna take longer than i think tho. Forget who it was, someone on here perhaps was doing something similar (clubman reshell?). Also my nearly-newly-rebuilt 998cc engine (ultimately destined for the city restoration) may even drop into the new shell just to run it in for a bit. the new clubby needs a new head gasket (at best) so might as well go the whole hog!

i was doing a clubman re-shell, still am sort of, its just from a clubman into a round nose now

ive got a mint de-seamed shell in need of a bit of paintwork, and im going to swap most of the mechanicals off the clubman onto the new shell, shouldnt take more than a week or two, i think you could probably fix the overheating problem whilst your at the sellers, a head gasket isnt that hard to change and a thermostat is a piece of cake if you know how, good luck whatever you do

Yeah i thought about it but it there was no cover and weather was C**p so limped it back, deffo not t'stat so must be head gasket/porous head and thanks v much to the muppet who drove in front of me at 19 and a half mph for the last few miles of the journey (30 limit) which just pushed her to the top of the temp gauge! I almost blew my own head gasket...... :P
The shell is near-perfect can only find one spot of welding been done and nothing needed, also its old enough to have the cool rear lights with no reversing lights. So time for some new wheels, suspension, engine and whatever else is serviceable off the old clubby. prob not much. And then go for a thrash!!
