unfortunately my original dash that i made from mdf didnt make it out of the body shop, think the screws holding it to the brackets were to small and not mdf friendly.

so this dash my nice bright white master piece is no more.

so now i have been slaving away making a new one, i have decided to not use mdf this time and i have chosen ply wood. it is slightly stronger than the mdf and as easy to fit.

so far i have managed to make the shape and get the dial surround in place. i have also got the bottom dash rail out and have painted that along with the switch panel surround. i have got to make a new panel for the switch's and i have new switch's to go in place (silver rocker)

so far this is what i have. oh and i will sneek a picture of the freshly painted mini in to :w00t:

just a small tip with bolting it on to the car, get some screws that are slightly longer than the originals.

although i think the part where the garage took it out more than once didnt help mine.

how are you going to spray it? with rattle cans? halfords do a handle that clips onto the top so you can hold it like a spray gun, you get a much better finish that way, more even spray of the paint.

good luck with your exams and the dash..

I'm hopefully going to make a fixing kit for the dash with wing nuts to clamp the two dash rails together. My last dash (made out of ply) was fixedwith self tappers into metal brackets behind the dash. I'm making a fixing kit for a more professional look.

I'm planning to spray it with rattle cans yeah, I've bought a spray master thing that clips on the collar of the spray can, which helps with the paint finish I've found before. Not sure about priming it though? Will standard primer be ok or did you use specific MDF primer?

Hopefully mine will look half as good as yours :w00t:

Will pot some pictures of it when sprayed and fitted.

i just used halfords grey primer, nothing special, i did however have to do a few coats as the mdf drank it like a fish...

but found that a small can would do the job if you did light coats but plenty of them.

your dash will look smart mate, just take your time, no need to rush these things.
