How would you feel when you purchased a mainstream cooper with the knowledge from mini mag and you went to a show with your new pride and joy only to be told its a fake, I think these mags should speak to mini clubs and people like anorak who knows his stuff.
Giong back a few many years there was a man who owned Austin 970 Cooper S and he had a bad crash and a local garage found a new shell and reshelled it, than a few years his g/box went so the same garage fitted a new g/box, then some years later he needed a new block so the same garage supplyied a new block this man takes his pride and joy to a show and there he see's another mini cooper s the same colour and spec as his gets chatting to the owner only to find he purchased this car from the same garage he used and what the garage owner had done was to repair the old shell and repair the old g/box and repair the old block and put it all together now wich car is the orignal the first with log book and new parts or the second with all the orignal body engine and box. so thats why articals should be correct and true...................... :D

Well done Anorak!

I have a limited edition myself... and... although I've 'ruined' it by joining the big wheels and exhaust club, I do have all the original parts if I ever want to go back. I'm also currently in the process of taking my other car, a 92 SPi cooper, back to original standard!

Keep up the good work! lol

Ryan :D

You know, I think I saw that film on the internet........ :dontgetit:

ANNNNNYWAY.....

Personally I'm glad for somebody like the Anorak to point out things like this. As a matter of fact, reading through the article, I found myself saying EXACTLY the same thing!
I own a Mainstream, so there are lts of little details that I'm used to seeing, and know when something is missing or replaced by a simmilar style / later item.

And further to the corrections, the ORIGINAL cooper decal on the rear quater panels, were SOLID / single piece printed stickers - not the later type 'vinyl segment' decals that are often used for relacements. They were also VERY cheap looking.

yes that's right, the early cooper stickers are in fact one piece printed stickers on a clear vinyl background and are a lot less "bold" than the later ones

i actually found a place that sells very good reproductions of these but i cant remember what they were called, that's one of my things to do this year, find them again and make a note of their name :D

Is there a reason why my late Cooper Sportspack has the "early one piece stickers" and not the "later segmented sticker"?

I believe Somerford stock the early one piece sticker types? Or at least their parts pdf files claim to?

I think Sportspacks had the larger 4" sized decal?

What I think the Mini magazines should do in their buying guides is to provide a text box stating that their buying guide article is, well that: a guide, not a complete how-to-buy articles and admit that there could be mistakes in the article. Then they should provide a website links or contact information to the people who really understand the stuff so that someone who were looking for the cars can refer and call them to ask a more detailed questions...
