if you want any quality of finish then you'll need a compressor with a 50ltr resevoir (preferably bigger)

ive done a car with a 25ltr one panel by panel and then polishing it up.

its doable but not ideal

you want a compressor that will run a gun for without the presure changing otherwise your finish will go to *male chicken*

The second deal seems much better, but as Bumgle said, you get what you pay for.

Thanks for the help, it seems slow on here tonight doesn't it?

If you want a respray to a pretty good standard, get a Devilbiss spray gun, and a compressor 2.5 hp or more. You can do it with lesser equipment, but it makes it harder.

Anything is possible lol!

I used a 25ltr compressor from Machine Mart (this ones very similar if not the same- http://www.machinema...th/airmaster-2) and a basic Clarke Professional syphon gun, about £150 worth of kit all together, with a tenners worth of gloss black cellulose and fully restored all the paintwork for my dads GS750 rebuild, the finish is brilliant.

I know the bike panels are only small areas to cover in comparison to car panels (saying that the GS tank is huuuuuge!!) but I had no issues with it having to continuously recharge etc, in fact I was able to give everything a good couple of coats without it kicking in, so I think it'd be fine for doing a panel or two at a time to be honest. Planning on completely doing my RSP with it this summer infact.

Obviously bigger is better, I've just got nowhere to physically store a bigger unit, and money was tight at the time so I went with the 25 litre and have no regrets in doing so, well worth it!

Cheers mate, I impressed meself haha!

Erm I've just noticed my link is wrong, mine is an Airmaster one, cost about £120 iirc, similar spec to the Tiger9/24 one on the Machine Mart website

About 2.5 horsepower mine is, and around the 8-8.5 cfm mark for displacement, so its slightly under what seems to be the spec most people recommend for spraying, but it did the job for me as shown in the pics of what I painted

Basically the main points to bear in mind-

The bigger the tank/reservior, the more air you have available in one go, meaning you can continuously spray for a longer period of time, which is necessary for massive panels so you don't end up with a patchy finish.

The bigger the air displacement means the bigger the airtool you can power as a basic example.

You don't really need to worry about things like max. pressure, because for spraying you'll only be outputting at between 40-60psi, which all compressors can do easily.

Don't take what I say as gospel  I've just taught myself in the back garden on a piece of builders ply lol, so I've just picked stuff up along the way, hopefully this helps a bit tho.

Just go for the best you can afford mate!

Cheers, the second compressor i found looks good as i will use a DA sander and other tools too. I want a reasonable hobby compressor. Second problem is the spray gun, cheers Peter but the ones you have suggested are just a bit out of my range.

Ebay was a good idea, i had a look and they are still so expensive i like the look of the GTi's they do look quite good, but it looks like i may have to settle for less, im looking at around £100 anyone have any recommendations?
