Hey all, FIRST POST!

Just a quick one, I just bought an 88 mayfair here in australia, and there's a metal upstand on the tunnel between the rear seats, about 40mm x 150mm.

It's got me stumped, what's it for?

Cheers

meh... take it out. (at your peril)

it keeps yer arse from touching the floor!!!!! the seat being made of thin metal needs that little bit of extra support in the lateral direction. there are lots of bits of seemingly pointless metal bits on mini's which overall add to structural rigidity and give it the go-kart handling.

Sorry, I might have given you a bit of a bum steer.

There's an upstand between the front and rear seats, forward of the rear seat bracket, about halfway between the rear seat bracket and the handbrake. It looks like there's something supposed to be mounted there but I haven't the foggiest what it's for.

Sounds like the ashtray holder to me. Is it a little box built into the tunnel?

Nah just flick your ciggy buts out into the dry bush.

I don't smoke, but it is irritating to have some weird little cutout in the carpet and a nice little steel box on the tunnel.

I might see if I can score an ashtray to cover the heinous little hole.
