I need a DEFINATE ANSWER PLEASE

To settle this once for for all

EXHIBIT A - mk2 lights

EXHIBIT B - mk3 onwards lights

If I was to take the later type (with built in reverse light) out, would the earlier type (linked to) slot straight in??

Besides the wiring I already know that but thats a piece of cake..

Chris

I believe Mk3 lights are very slightly larger but they certainly still fit in the shell. All you'll get is and area where the paint hasn't been exposed to the weather.

yes you can fit mk2/3 lights instead of mk4 onwards the holes in the shell are exectly the same

the indicator and brake sections are bigger on the earlier lights and smaller on the later to fit the reverse light in

Right so out of 3 answers two say they're a different size and one says they're the same...

If there is a size difference what is it, are we talking centimetres or millimetres

I guess I will have to remove the units from the car to see what the paint is like underneath if it's going to be exposed.

look at the mk 2 lights at the side of the lense, the lense looks as if it dose not fit, there is a crack or space, the mk 3 sits on the chrome surround.
making it wider and shorter i think.

Me and Ed have both fit Mk2 rear lights Chris. The bit of metal exposed is probably a cm wide and runs all the way round. Providing your car is the original colour or has been sprayed properly, there should not be any problem. The wirings easy aswell

Ryan

Cheers ryan.

It looks like an amazing paint job. Apparently it's been sat in a garage for at least a year but the paintwork and bodywork is absolutely immaculate , no bubbles anywhere at all so I will safely assume that it is okay under the lights

Trust me with the paint job this bad boy has had I very very much doubt in fact it looks impossible that it's been painted with anything on it at all.
