I know I shouldn't but I was so taken aback I want to share with you all.
I recenty purchased new seat covers from mini trimmings and when I asked them if they could provide new foam for the seat they suggested I try newton commercial. Now I have the standard seats with the single post headrest so it should be straight forward, I would have thought, to get the foam from newton commercial. I called them and at first they seemed unwilling to help, not understanding which seat I had, despite explaining to them exactley what I have said above. In the end, they sent me a catalogue. I found my seats on page 40, called them and was told they would call me back later. Later, they did call but said they couldn't help me because their foam only fitted their seat covers. I protested explaining that the seat was standard so why wouldn't it work. The lady insisted it wouldn't and when I asked to be put through to someone senior, she put me through to Jimmy Newton, who again said their foam would not work with anyone else's covers. That I should have bought everything from them, arround £600.00.
Can anyone tell me if this is right?
Also, I have bought 2 inner wings and a scuttle for my car, I went to a body shop to get a quote to fit these parts and generally get the car ready for a full respray. The car only has surface rust in a couple of places, mainley the scuttle. I could not believe this guy quoted me £2500 to fit the two wings and the scuttle saying it would take him a month. Also he wanted £1500 for the respray.
Can some who knows please tell me, assuming he charges £25.00 per hour, he thinks it would take him 100 to weld two wings and a scuttle. Is that right?
Sorry to go on but can someone give me an idea how much this work should cost?
thanks

The only thing I can say is that quote is ridiculous, it seems he quoted that because he simply doesnt want to do it... sure some more experienced people will soon reply with a reasonable price to pay

Now i dont know anything about what you said really, but that price is completely ridiculous, he most likely said that high as he doesnt want to do it! People on here would be able to change it for you no doubt (for a small fee i'd imagine)! You could get your whole car resprayed for less than £1500 (well i could get nearly 3 mini's sprayed for that price!)

hi, im afraid that newton commercial will not entertain you if you have bought from anywhere else.the only thing i can suggest is buting some thin foam from a haberdashery or fleabay and spray gluing it to either your seat or inside the new cover.
Also the price you were quoted for the wings and scuttle is ridiculous. Bear in mind he probably quoted that because he didnt really want the work.
You can put a scuttle and wings on in a day if you are a novice. Get some more quotes or ask on here if anyone is prepared to help you

That quote is a joke. He clearly doesn't want the work. I payed less than £600 to have my scuttle and passenger door skin replaced, that included all the welding and spraying in pearlesant paint. I left the car with him for a week and a half.

it took the bodyshop i took my car to.. less than an hour to fit a front end on a mini... (not a flip front.. replacement panels) and i had a bodykit fitted, front end fitted and full respray £1200

Haha that quote is hilarious. He obviously doesn't want the job, but doesn't want to turn you away.
I'd have said about £1500 would be about right for all that work.

Well, I am so glad you all agree! I did say to him if you don't want to do the job, just say so but he was insistant it would take him that long.
I have now found some one to do the welding, and he can recommend a body shop for the respray so I will post some pictures once its all done.
Thanks

that guys trying to stitch you up.
To have roofless's body work brought up to the best standard he could, supply and fit the fiat coupe rear light conversion, fit the zeemax kit and full paint job in flip paint cost less than what you have been quoted.

I don't think that's it, I've only found them to be truly helpful every time I've dealt with them. For cars from about Mk3 on, they really don't make genuine seats but make their own design instead. They look like the original seats but aren't because BL in their own very special way lost all the patterns, mould and parts and never kept any kind of build records at all. Newton have come up with a seat design that looks appropriate to the car but it isn't directly interchangeable because original parts aren't available. Obviously they aren't going to be happy with supplying you the bits and pieces to finish off someone else's work but that doesn't mean they won't do it.
