Hello... Would all the running gear from a clubman 1275GT fit straight on to a mini city 89. I might be swapping my shell cause the body work is very rotten, needed to no if the subframes engine loom ect would fit straight onto the new shell.

Twin Bolts, Inside on the boot floor and into the rear heal board thingy.

He means the tower mounts on the front subframe.

Surely not? Its the same shell, just a different engine and i was pretty sure its fine to change engines and retain the original identity! The age of the engine may exempt you from emissions tests for the MOT though! depends on the years (i really dont know them..)

From the sound of it the plan is to put the entire running gear, electrics and engine from one car into another body which definitely means an SVA and Q plate.

Yours is a single bolt subframe,when i came to view i noticed that!

Q plates are still issued to kit or homebuilt cars made from second hand components when the entire car can't be determined to be of any particular age. You can ONLY get a new reg or age related reg after an SVA if all the parts used (except for one major assembly, usually the engine block) are brand new or of the same age.

Yeah, that's excatly what I though. Infact, it's exactly what I was reading somewhere the other day when the same question cropped up. I think it was on the DVLA site actually.

Just got this from the DVLA site

Allocating a vehicle registration mark
The vehicle must score eight or more points to retain the original registration mark. If less than eight points are scored or a second-hand or modified chassis or altered monocoque bodyshell is used, an enhanced single vehicle approval (ESVA), single vehicle approval (SVA) or motorcycle single vehicle approval (MSVA) certificate will be required to register the vehicle. A 'Q' prefix registration number will be allocated.
Scoring components
The following values will be allocated to the major components used:

chassis or body shell (body and chassis as one unit - monocoque ie direct replacement from the manufacturer) (original or new) = 5 points
suspension = 2 points
axles = 2 points
transmission = 2 points
steering assembly = 2 points
engine = 1 point

Still positive they have given up with Q`s as it was stopped to prevent "ringing"

That section from the Direct Gov site is incorrect, for some reason when the Direct Gov people added the 'registering kit cars' information from the DVLA they used a version that was about 6 months out of date and have never modified it since. The method now requires the original or unused new replacement body and at least two major assemblies to be kept from the original car. Or maybe it was the DVLA who were quoting it wrongly shortly before their site was absorbed, since Direct Gov is the only on-line source of the info there is no easy way to know which system is more up to date. And if you phone the DVLA and ask, the person on the phone will only check the website anyway!
