The engine has mostly been taken apart, the main things I need to get so far are a new clutch and new valves and thrust washers. I went down to see it today and it was in lots and lots of bits!
My gearbox has been checked and thats all ok, which is more good news.
The guy doing it was going to finish stripping it today and tomorrow, so im not sure if hes found anything else up, but no news is good news, right?! He should then give me a list of stuff I need to buy, then its a trip to Min-its!
Meanwhile, whilst the engines away being done, ive been trying to tackle the mess that is my engine bay!
Ive also decided to paint my front valance, as thats looking a little crusty, so I started prepping that yesterday and will paint it tomorrow. I am still deciding whether or not to do the rear one as well, although theres a bit of nasty rust and im a bit worried that it may need more a professional job doing on it. Its under the fog light bracket, but I might just bite the bullet tomorrow and go for it!!
Ill get some pictures tomorrow! I just havent had chance yet, as when ive finished doing stuff ive been covered in paint and I dont want to get it on my camera!
Bloomin' heck, I seemed to have typed an awful lot!
Happy reading!

sounds like your gettin stuck into it now sarah, are you going to do any detailing in the engine bay at all like painting your master cylinder and brake lines while the engine is out?? if you need some silver hammerite i have some you can borrow, iv nearly finished doing my engine bay. hope it al goes well with the engine rebuild.
Thank you
I took some photos today, but only have one from before, but you get the idea!!

Heres a couple of the engine bay after I painted it:

The front valance kurusted and wire brushed!

I then wrapped Lily up ready to paint, I didnt have any of that snazzy brown paper, so just had to settle for newspaper, I hope it doesnt leave any print on her

Then I stonechipped:

I also took my foglight off and started prepping the rear valance, but need to take my arches off before I can do it:

The bit of rust that I thought was really bad, wasnt bad at all!!

I got the fella to put some zinc primer on the front valance, but its started cracking, so I need to sand it all back tomorrow
That is all for now, but I shall carry on tomorrow

Also Saz, id leave the white stonechip as it is, if its white dont spray over it... i did that on mine and as my stonechip is black the blue chips off leaving the black stonechip

I need to colour match it, because it goes up past where the bumper will be
Its annoying because the weathers looking a bit grotty today and its too cold to paint at the minute

Orrrrr, shall I sand it all off, zinc primer it, top coat, then look for clear? If I put it on top, it wont flake the rest of will it?
Or shall I not bother with stonechip?!

You will normally go from metal.
Zinc primer.
Top coat of white
then clear stonechip on the lower areas like sills and front valance as you have done.
First thing before you try on your car is to try it elsewhere so if you have a scrap piece of metal do the zinc, white and then clear stonechip it and see if it will react and "craze".
Its upto you if you do stonechip or not, i would myself and ive done my entire floor wheel wells with the stuff.

Has it been restored in the past?
