Theres updates :), but no pictures :)

The engine has mostly been taken apart, the main things I need to get so far are a new clutch and new valves and thrust washers. I went down to see it today and it was in lots and lots of bits! :o The head needs skimming, but so far its all repairable and rebuildable which is good news :)

My gearbox has been checked and thats all ok, which is more good news.

The guy doing it was going to finish stripping it today and tomorrow, so im not sure if hes found anything else up, but no news is good news, right?! He should then give me a list of stuff I need to buy, then its a trip to Min-its!

Meanwhile, whilst the engines away being done, ive been trying to tackle the mess that is my engine bay! ;) So far ive hammerited my subframe black and hammerited the bulkhead (think thats what it is!) white. Ive also scrapped all the old underseal out of my wheel arches, thats now looks more like mud and painted some new stuff on. This has given me chance to sort out a couple of little bits of rust that were hiding under it!!

Ive also decided to paint my front valance, as thats looking a little crusty, so I started prepping that yesterday and will paint it tomorrow. I am still deciding whether or not to do the rear one as well, although theres a bit of nasty rust and im a bit worried that it may need more a professional job doing on it. Its under the fog light bracket, but I might just bite the bullet tomorrow and go for it!!

Ill get some pictures tomorrow! I just havent had chance yet, as when ive finished doing stuff ive been covered in paint and I dont want to get it on my camera! :errr: hehe.

Bloomin' heck, I seemed to have typed an awful lot! :(
Happy reading!

sounds like your gettin stuck into it now sarah, are you going to do any detailing in the engine bay at all like painting your master cylinder and brake lines while the engine is out?? if you need some silver hammerite i have some you can borrow, iv nearly finished doing my engine bay. hope it al goes well with the engine rebuild.

Thank you :) Im just leaving the brake lines as the are, as there a sort of grey colour! And im going to leave the master cylinders as they are too, ive just given them a bit of a clean up. I want to try and paint the plate that the master cylinders are sat on, but I cant take it out and it might be a bit tricky with it still in there :errr:

I took some photos today, but only have one from before, but you get the idea!!

Heres a couple of the engine bay after I painted it:

The front valance kurusted and wire brushed!

I then wrapped Lily up ready to paint, I didnt have any of that snazzy brown paper, so just had to settle for newspaper, I hope it doesnt leave any print on her :dontgetit:

Then I stonechipped:

I also took my foglight off and started prepping the rear valance, but need to take my arches off before I can do it:

Posted Image

The bit of rust that I thought was really bad, wasnt bad at all!!

I got the fella to put some zinc primer on the front valance, but its started cracking, so I need to sand it all back tomorrow :P

That is all for now, but I shall carry on tomorrow :errr:

I need to colour match it, because it goes up past where the bumper will be :errr: I think I might sand the primer off and try and repaint it :P

Its annoying because the weathers looking a bit grotty today and its too cold to paint at the minute :errr:

Ah i see... well you can get clear stonechip you know, so you can paint it the same body colour white and then do the clear over the white.... do a test first somwhere just in case it reacts.

Is stonechip similar stuff to zinc primer? Or does it work as a primer? Can I put the top coat straight over the stonechip? That might be ok. It says on the can of stonechip that its overpaintable and that you can paint over it with a top coat, but I dont know if that includes primer?! :P Soooo Cooooonfuuuuuused! :errr: Would normal primer go over it?

Orrrrr, shall I sand it all off, zinc primer it, top coat, then look for clear? If I put it on top, it wont flake the rest of will it?

Or shall I not bother with stonechip?! :)

Right stonechip does what it says, its a hard paint that stones wont chip easily like normal paint... if you remind me ill take you pictures of normal paint vs stonechip on my car.

You will normally go from metal.

Zinc primer.
Top coat of white
then clear stonechip on the lower areas like sills and front valance as you have done.

First thing before you try on your car is to try it elsewhere so if you have a scrap piece of metal do the zinc, white and then clear stonechip it and see if it will react and "craze".

Its upto you if you do stonechip or not, i would myself and ive done my entire floor wheel wells with the stuff.

I wonder if was contaminated before you sprayed it...

Has it been restored in the past?
