given the location (i.e. close to the airbox) and after looking at the connections on my engine i would say something to do with the airbox. airflow meters maybe, or intake temperature sensors. dont quote me on that though, only an educated guess.

They are just a breather for the diaphragms on top of the throttle bodies. On the R1 airbox under extreme air intake pressure they will help raise the sliders in the TBs. It is best to remove the foam filled elbows and root the pipes to the backing plate of your air filter. Unless you are using the R1 Airbox.
