Morning all,

I've just taken delivery of one of those plastic shield things to protect the electrics from damp. Wee Buster seems to be vulnerable when it's wet and doesn't spark enough.

I've worked out which way up it should go but beyond that not sure how to fit it. Any ideas troops?

have you fitted the clips to the rocker cover bolts ?

yup, an then the shield will have two clips that fit through and lock into place in those brackets.

That's the boy exactly. Damn it. I just looked at it and assumed it would be complicated.

Where does the bottom bracket fix onto then?

erm. I dont know if it actualy does, ive never had one fixed in place! if it dos then id have a look somewhere at the same sort of level as the starter motor for another fixing.

i think theres a bolt between the block and the gear box the bracket goes on

dont bother with the bottom one, its difficult to get to and the shield is held enough by the top two

Actually while we on the topic, i was wondering...
I dont like the look of those shields runes the aesthetics of the engine bay. Is there an alternative apart from Changing to Electric ignition. I was thinking along the lines of a Rubber cover for the Coil, and a black glove the Distributor?
Im in a moke, that has a much larger grill at the front and therefore is more open to the elements!!

Yes, but my distributor isn't the early type!! so my Leads come straight out of the top, facing the Grill!!! so you can see they're gonna play up!

In which case you're gonna have to go for some bespoke fabrication .... option a) heat-shrink a Magnolia glove over it, or b) do what I did - ice cream tub for the win!

There is a coil boot Minispares stock it. Earlier Minis had a little sheild for the dizzy on the back of the grill, but with the Moke's open lats you'd be able to see it. The dizzy shouldn't really need a cover as long as the HT leads fit snuggly and are kept clean. You could make up a transparent plaggy cover for the back of the grill I suppose.

Ice cream, wouldn't want anybody fitting the wrong part!

Mind you, won't the ice cream melt n' cause it to short?
