I ve got two rover minis, one bought in sweden, the other one in switzerland.
Both have a chassinumber begining with SAXXNNAZRWD...............
Which gives me :
MG-ROVER / Mini 1300 / Sport, Cooper, Cabriolet / 2-door saloon/sedan. / 1300 MPi / LHD, Manual, 2.76 / "W" ? / Longbrige.
But...they are both SPI ones, not MPI as the 8th digit "Z" suggest.
And I dont know what to make of the 10th digit, the "W" which is supposed to be "model change" ....
Engine numbers are both 12A2LK....and thats definitively SPI engines. Did they change the mpi against spi for export ?

Exports are a whole other ball game
What is the year of manufacture?
Some exports were fitted with air conditioning or auto engines during the MPi production ad were SPi not MPi, the engine block, is however an MPi block with the oil filter over the starter motor.
If the year of manufacture is before 97 then it is most likely SPi anyway.

Well, they both have the date for first registration written as "1998", so they are probably made in 97...
Oil filter is above the starter as you described, but the electrical system to the injection is definitvely SPI.
So as you wrote, an Mpi engine block with an Spi injection. The mystery solved !
Thanks for your help

Me being a complete numpty when it comes to injection and things of that nature, but one thing I do know... the MPi block does not have a dizzy hole which would make it rather interesting to attach SPi electronics as it still requires a dizzy... ??
