Hiya people,

In my mini it has no rear seat belts I was wondering what I had to do so that I could put them into the rear and have them be safe. Need to know what this will involve as I would really like seat belts in the back of my mini.

Thank You
Aaron

have the pillars between the rear screen and quarter panels got holes to take them?

if they have then just get a set of belts and bolt them in.....

My car is a Mk1 and it never had belts in the back. I had a friend send me a picture of the anchor points in the boot of his '84 Mayfair. I copied the lower anchor point features in my car's boot and installed lap belts... not a 3-point harness. I don't know what would be required to safely add an upper anchor point to an early car.

Nope no holes. So need to know what I can do so I can put belts in the rear, whether ill have to put a plate in to attach them too or whether its not possible at all.

Thanks

Have you any pictures of what you have done that you could send me as if I cant get the 3 point belts in this could be the only other option.

Thanks

I found that I had two composite pictures of the lap belt anchor points. You can see them by visiting the link below and clicking on the two files.
http://home.mindspri...pictures/belts/

You'll notice I did not copy exactly the outer anchor points of the Mayfair. There are stiffening ribs on the seat back that prevented me from doing exactly what BMC/BL/Rover did. Instead I made a horizontal bar out of 1/4" steel and made it as long as reasonable to spread the load out while keeping the anchor point "low" on the seat back.

I hope this helps.

lap belts would be the easiest things to fit

you can even get baby seats that fit with just a lap belt

justkampers sell the mounts and lap belts

I couldn't see it Above, what age is the car?

You wouldn't see holes on the pillars, it would be a soft spot where you cut out and there is a mounting point behind. I put inertia belts in my daughters '83, I created a mounting point in the rear bins for the reel. There are others that mount the reel on the pillar, that was a messy option. I can't remember off hand where I got them, they are made by Securon.

EDIT: This is them...

Sorry, I wasn't thinking when I posted the picture links above in my last post.

The angle iron piece in the center of my boot floor against the seat back... that's another part I fabricated to be the seat belt anchor. It was NOT originally on my Mk1 and I modeled it after the part shown in the center of the Mayfair boot.

Regarding the 3-point belt in a Mk1 (or Mk2), I'll repeat my earlier concern that there will not be any factory holes for the upper anchor point. There won't be any soft spots to look for. If your pillars are covered at all... there won't be anything soft on them anyway. The parcel shelf is a flimsy bit and it will not have anchor points. If someone with a later style shell (without an interior) can photograph the upper anchor points, perhaps you can fabricate something and weld it in. However, the lack of upper anchor points from the factory is why I only installed lap belts.

My car is a 1977 clubby but I have no clue on what to do I will have to look to see if there is any soft spots and holes that I can use but I dont think my car has those holes due to its age and i might have to go with the lap belt option. But i will look and let you know.

Thanks

Your car is missing this inner plate on the C pillar. On earlier cars the C pillar is only made up from the outer skin.

I cut a pair of c-post inners out of another car and welded them in on mine to give the anchorage points
