From what ive learned is that procedure gives the ecu the upper and lower limits of the throttle potentiometer. once it gets those it indexes the stepper motor to its preprogrammed point....nothing to do with ignition or resetting any preprogrammed functions of the ecu.

unless you have a webber or dellorto or a carb with an accelerator pump jet system, stamping on the throttle will do nothing with the SU carbs as they rely on oil to enrichen the fuel delivered and not a rubber diaphram. Kids can play with the throttle peddle all they want and the only thing it will do is wear a minute amount of material off the linkage pins and perhaps the throttle spindle bushings.

The attachments explains a little.

The adaptive parameters on the Rover MEMES ECUs is not volatile, when you key off there is no power supply at the ECU. You may still measure 12v at some of the pins, but thats the feed back from the relay pack and nothing else, it does not power the ecu. So, if you unplug the ECU, its just the same as keying off.

Are you talking about the MPi when you say this? Dont forget that the SPi and MPi are two totaly different engine management systems in every respect >_<

I still havent heard anything 'official' that confirms this either. If it was a programable ECU where the choice of sensor varies, this is true. But on a production car, that has sensors of the same type and specification, why would you need to do this? the min and max will be the same between sensors.

I really need to pay more attention to the things I read about the mpi and spi ecu systems, and also reread everything you have posted. If we lived closer id buy you a beer >_<

So what have we learnt today kids? Don't play with throttle pedals!

But seriously, stamping on the throttle pedal will only flood your engine.

Not in an injection mini >_<

Must be only certain injection cars then. When I first sold my Astra Mk3 to my brother, he was stamping on the throttle while trying to start it because he was used to the crappy automatic chock on his VW Golf Mk2.

I have often wondered if the documentation for the Testbook had any specific information on the different MEMS units and what the capabilities of the MEMS unit was in each application, SPi MEMS 1.9, MPi MEMS 2J.

There must have been some documentation for Rover dealers on using the Testbook in different cars.
