Hi all

Just a general question really i have a shell ready for my z cars project but its not in the best of conditions as there are a few holes to be delt with. I have dibs on a shell which has been given a catogary c write off for the smallest of small dents in the front of it and besides that its in mint condition. The shell is fine but if i want to use it for my z cars project how would i go about re-regestering etc with it being a write iff should i stay clear??

any help on this one peeps??

it wont be the shell that is written off it will be the car and associated numbers stamped in it.

in repsect of what you would need to do - all cat c cars have to be inspectd by VOSA to ensure they have been repaied safely and are fit for use on the road. normally costs you to have them inpsected (my uncle deals in cat c& d salvage).

if it was passed then the car would carry a cat c marking on the logbook/v5 - therefore suggesting that the car has at one time been involved in an accident - so bear that in mind.

alternatively you could use the cat c shell to repair your undmamged shell if it is financially viable.

Hi wilson thats really helpful, thanks very much for that the guy is asking for an offer on the shell but i dont no what to give. I think i need to go and have a look at the shell and see what soprt of condition its in as i have only seen it in the dark.

Many Thanks
Phil

i would go over the car with a fine toothcomb before commiting to it as minis generally dont stand accidents well
thats not to say it wont be suitable but be critical of it as the damage creeps further than a cursory inspection will uncover
certainly go in good daylight and if its stored undercover get them to shift it outside and lift it up for a look underneath
if all else fails the new fibreglass shells we are now doing are a good option bearing in mind a steel shell will probably need welding/repairing then spraying this all adds cost

Firstly a cat C needs a vehicle identity check (VIC) after its made suitable for the road again. The inspector at VOSA Is not looking at the repair, He/she is looking to make sure you have not ringed the car. VEHICLE IDENTITY = VIC.

You would of been better off presenting the whole original mini for VIC because you might open a can of worms after the conversion.

But on the other hand, you could put it through an SVA test after the conversion and get an age related plate. No longer on the hit list.

A mate of mine bought a stuffed S2000 cat C and turned it into a buggy I posted pics a while back. It got an age related.

Well i might speak to chris about it a bit ore when i go to see him tomorrow about buying the kit and which one i may opt for as i no i might be cheaper going for oen of the fibre glass ones dependant on the costs compaired with using a steel shell.

i am going to have a good look at the shell at soem point to see the extent of the damage and if i can get a good price i may just use the shell for bits such as a cross member for the buckets seats to rest on. Will wait and see after my chat with chris tomorrow..

Many Thanks on your thoughts on this one, I think i may be best sticking with the current shell?

Cheers

Phil
