I have just bought off eBay a pair of used MG Metro Turbo Front Drive/Brake Assemblies with a view to convert my Mini Cooper MPi (see photo of items below).
[attachment=49948:MG_Metro..._Assy__s.jpg]
I have found some fitting instruvctions/guides on here (thanks, very useful) but there is mention of needing special bolts to fit the calipers to the Mini hubs, i.e. metric shank (9mm I think?) but with imperial thread (3/8" UNF?).
My question is, can I use the bolts I remove from the assemblies I have bought not fit or are they metric thread. I see they can be bought from Mini Spares if required?
Also, is it recommended to replace the disc/drive flange bolts or can they be re-used (assuming they come out okay)?
PS - Any other tips anyone has would be much appreciated?

MG Metro and MG Metro Turbo - are the vented discs/calipers the same or are the Turbo ones different?

the special bolts are the bolts used on the ERA turbo mini. if you go onto mini spares website you can find them there for a couple of quid.
you will also need a hose conversion kit that can also be found on their site.

i didnt understand the last question - vented disks must go with calipers designed for the vented disc as its wider than the solid disc, you cant mix and match - hope that helps.

i cant tell from the photo but do the drive flanges has 4 lugs around the center nut? they are used as lugs to locate the wheel when putting the wheel on, i understand that if ur running 12 " wheels these need to be machines flat.
i also believe you cannot use normal mini drive flanges as it throws the disc out.

i would suggest replacing the discs and pads when fitting these brakes.

Sorry, last question was a bit confusing???

I have been looking around eBay for some replacement discs and have seen MG Metro vented discs and MG Metro "Turbo" vented discs for sale, my question is, are they the same?
I'm sure someone told me the MG Metro were "solid" discs and only the Turbo were "vented"?

I'm fitting these on a 98 Cooper MPi which has 13" x 7" Superlites fitted so am assuming they should clear okay?

only early metro's had solid discs and 4 pots.

i'd guess at 90% of them all had vented discs, the turbo and non turbo were both vented.

They may be both vented but are they the same (identical)??

just replace for exactly the same that are on it. i.e if there vented on it then use vented. also change the pads when you are changing them.
i would also recommend to replace the springs and split pins that hold the pads in ad it just makes it so much easier and looks alot better.
also make sure you use penetrating fluid on the bleed nipples as they can snap off easy and you will either need a new caliper side or a really good machinist.
hope this helps :thumbsup:

p.s they fit over all 12 and 13 inch wheels.

Cheers Grimmy,
I intend vapour blasting them and giving it all a good soak in penetrating oil for a few days before i attemp to take them apart.
Already have a full seal/service kit ordered for them along with pads, springs, pins etc. and Mini hose kit etc. and even thinking of buying a new pair of discs and possibly x-drilling them like the aftermarket ones available (like photo)?

[attachment=49967:21A2612D_G.jpg]

Anyone drilled there own before? I guess you just need to miss the webs in between???

if you drill your own you will need them balancing and it will be a ball ache. apparently the drilled discs are prone to warping but dont quote me on that. standard vented discs will be fine. spend the extra on a decent set of pads.

What do you recommend as a "decent set of pads"?
The caliper overhaul kit I have ordered has EBC Ultimax Pads, are they any good???
