Hi, I've heard this expression a few times and was wondering what it means - are there two skins to the rear arch that I've not noticed before, and is it where the outer one is taken out?

Many Thanks

Tom

Basically you have to make a larger inner arch area, to allow for bigger wheels/tyres.

Even if you run a mini with the standard 4.52 wide steelies and a reasonable arch to wheel gap they can still scrub under hard cornering (roundabouts :thumbsup: ) on the outer lip due to the shape of the wheel arch.

Just one question, as I’ve been thing of the idea for the Mayfair seeing as it will be pretty low, how do you work out were to cut the outer quarter panel for the new lip withought messing it up?

I have heard the same thing, but some know it as arch rolling.

I thought arch rolling was when you bolt an arm type thing with a roller to the hub and heat the lip of the arch to Soften the paint/metal, then gradually applying more and more pressure on each pass to flatten the inner lip/push the arch out.

Arch rolling is completly different. As 1984mini25 said. A contraption (sorry, love that word :thumbsup: ) is fixed to the wheel hub, and when the arch has been heated, this roller is then rolled from one side of the arch, around the lip to the other side. This "Contraption" actually flairs the wing out.

The most important part of arch rolling is heat. You need to heat the arch up before and during the rolling so the paint doesnt chip. It might crack a little but you cant stop cracks.

You can also do it yourself with either a pole (demonstrated in the video below) or a baseball bat, which leaves a better finish and leaves more paint on the arch lol.

A lot of car manufacturers are making their "meatier" models, i.e sports, GTis RS's etc etc have flared arches as standard. One prime example is Audi. The S3 has flared arches, and in this picture you can clearly see that the sexual beast that is the 420bhp RS4 has flared arches;
