Got to get my clubman back on the road asap. All rust has been cut out and welded, all solid just about to rub it all back and use cans to spray it all, I know a proper job would look better but would like to here from anyone who has used cans instead

in the meantime couple o' tips i found useful:
press the nozzle with the very tip of you finger rather than with the middle of the last joint (if you know what i mean). it feels less comfortable but it stops paint building up on the overhanging bit of your finger then flying off in a big blob onto your nice new paint job.
shake it for much longer than you think. a quick wiggle isnt enough (oo-er), follow the recommendations on the can.
And finally use a mask, other wise see the thread entitled "black snot"...

ado! ive used spray cans on a few areas on my mini its easy, the key is prperation get it smooth then put some primer on and youle see all the imperfection so fill it up and rub it down and do it again till its good, also another key lol is to shake the cans VERY WELL! and warm the cans up before you spray (hair dryer or heat gun) dont blow them u[p though! :P and mask well other wise it will go EVERY where, and do it in a well ventelated area lol ie not in you garage with the door down other wise you mini will start talking to you if u get my drift  :w00t:

You can get a handle that fits on a spray-can and has a trigger , if you use one of these you can get the paint more even without getting finger cramp (dont even think of useing your thumb !)
use the corect grade of wet&dry
mask up very carefully
make sure to use spirit wipe to clean the panel before rubbing down and after (before applying any paint or primer)

i just sprayed my wing. looks ok.

i found that you need to buy good quality paint halfords is good for colour matching

it can help if the panel is warm before you do the spraying. and get light shining on the panel.

when using the cans spray the panel side to side, then up and down the panel this helps even coverage and avoids runs.

when doing the top coat move slower so the paint goes on thicker you will se it go shiny instead of dull.

yeah those handle things are great, if you have a rover mini then there should be ready made cans of paint, another word of advice treat the spray area like a square i.e dont spray with the arc of a wing treat it like a square or you will overlap.

It depends on the type of paint in the cans ,
if it is cellulose it can be flated and polished in a few hours ,
if it is acrylic , they recomend you dont polish it for somthing like 3 weeks :gasp:

The best bits of advice I can give are...

Buy MORE spray cans than you think you are going to use...

DONT use all the paint in the can. As the can runs out, it will start to spit and you will get blobs of paint everywhere and it will need sanding again...

Build the paint up, you will need atleast 5 dry coats of paint. (At least)

Also, Make sure the area is perfectly smooth before you start.

Oh, and you WILL need primer :-

I sprayed my whole moped, and I only gave the back end like a couple of coats and when I T cut it a few weeks later, all the primer started to show through

this is what my scooter turned out like...
