Ok heres the first look at my first resto, he is called Paddy after the estimed Mr Hopkirk and is currently a BRG Cooper spi on a K plate.

My intention is to do a partial rebuild on him ie remove and replace the rot - inner & outer sills, possible some floor section, boot floor repair and a carbon kevlar flip front.

I fancy giving him a Mk 1 look with small rear light cluster and mk 1 style boot but not door hinges. Full respray intended but undecided on colour, I am leaning towards Tweed grey with OEW roof.

Going to stick with 12s at the current time but may look at going onto 10's in the future.

Engine wise I am still mulling over the options, currently 45k on the clock and relativley tight engine but whether to stage 3 the exisitng set up and retain the injection system or replace the whole lump with a carb set up possibly overbored to 1330.

Just to many choices at the moment so will concentraite on sorting bodywork and running gear before any engine work. Will keep you posted as works progress.

Should be good matey. Alot of minis going for the MK1 look recently! Obviously because its the best look

Have you considered a 1330 SPI lump? Would be quite a tasty machine. Have a look at sprokets SPI, Ran 100bhp an 100 ft/lb on the standard ECU!

Good luck anyway. Sounds like you know what you want from it anyway!

Thanks for the reply.

I also have a 2000 plate Cooper Sport (Monty) which i have owned from new and kept standard but is he is getting a little scabby around the front end and as per normal the scuttle is goosed. I fancied doing something different with this one, hence the Mk 1 look but with the intention of getting it on the road by autumn before doing the resto work on the fatpack . Thanks for the heads up I will check Sprockets spi out for info on tuning Paddy up

Cheers, i have to admit seeing bean was one of the factors in my decision. Sorry to here about the argument with the fence by the way.

Here are some various bits and bobs that are going onto Paddy in due course

Here is the look I am after, very badly photoshopped picture pinched from MF where Nibbler is selling this Speedwell replica, any way loved the colour so put Paddy's wheels, w&p arches and Cibies on and changed the roof to white to give me an idea what it would look like

Ed

I am in Blackpool.

to be honest I am not convinced with the seats yet, maybe they take some getting use to but the back rest space between the bolsters is quite narrow and i am not a big bloke by any means. Effectivley your spine does not touch the back of the seat apart from at your shoulders, maybe this is how they are supposed to be but it feels weird when compared to my Cooper sport and my Mitsi daily driver.

I saw the Protech dampers on the net and liked the fact they are billet as opposed to welded and they are shiny too. Not used Huddersfield before but cannot complain as the dampers were £35 a piece and came within two days. Mostly use Minispares via post or Minisport as they a reasonably local.

Have you started your repairs on the bean yet?

excellent project, should be very nice when done.

I have an OEW roof on mine at the minute, gives the car a very retro look
