Right was lookin at a cam description and it read;

"the cam also has the pinion for driving a dry sump set up, but is perfectly usable in a normal wet sump set up"

Is it actually possible to run a dry box/sump!?! I was a little confused as the block shares its oil with the box.

Docs?? :wub:

Not in a Mini type engine but two possibilites come to mind. Either the write up was by someone who has never seen a cam with a distributor gear on (few engines still drive the dizzy this way after all) and that is the gear he was talking about. Or the cam is also designed for in-line type racing A series engines used in Spridgets and other cars and somebody has designed a dry sump system for those engines which somehow manages to cram a scavenger drive onto the camshaft. Myself I'd bet on the first option as it would be pretty expensive to retool a cam like that just to run a dry sump when you could run the pump in other ways.

aparently there are(were) some A series cams about that had what looked a dizzy drive gear where the fuel pump lobe would be.

as said theyu were for inline engines.

You can run a mini engine dry sump

Separate the gearbox and engine, tap into the oil feeds for a pressure in / out and to a scavenge pump, to the tank:). You could in better gearbox oil too:D

So how would you separate the drop gears from the engine block/crankshaft?.
