Afternoon.. I have recently sold an I Pod Nano on ebay I got about £65 for through paypal. I then went to postoffice and sent the Item first class. This was last wednesday, the guy said it still has not arrived. Should I believe him because he wants a refund, : ( grrrrrrrrr
How do I no he is telling the truth?

Did you send it recorded? Hope you got postal insurance on it other wise you could end up out of pocket!

Did you get a proof of postage receipt or was there any insurance on the item if so get down to the post office.

Regarding the seller there is no real way of telling really all you have to go on is their feedback.

Even if you didn't send it recorded you can get a free certificate of posting, but this would only cover you up to a certain amount - can't remember off the top of my head if you sent it recorded it's up to £35 I think anything over should be sent Special Delivery.

alas it seems that there is little that you can do about it. PayPal I believe will automatically side with the buyer in these circumstances UNLESS you can show them a signature for delivery - i.e, sent it recorded delivery.

Unfortunately, there are many people out there that will rob you plain and simple and there is a good chance that that is what is happening to you.

You really must always send higher value items recorded and really expensive stuff by special delivery.

Alas, hindsight doesn't really help you much.

The standard compensation is only £32 I think so even if you claim from the post office then you are still going to be out of pocket. You will also need to get the buyer to confirm that it was not delivered.

Mind, this scam normally involves people just putting a dispute straight into paypal without even bothering to contact the seller so in your case it may just be genuine.

You do need to allow 2 weeks for delivery before doing anything though.

You do need to be really careful about collections, payments and deliveries and make sure your covered your backside. There are loads of scams doing the rounds at the moment, though I'm not going into detail on an open forum for obvious reasons!

Should have sent it recorded delivery I supose you live a learn.

If you've got the receipt at least you can proove you've posted it to him, you should be able to claim some compensation for it but not all of the value.

If youve got the receipt then you should just get away with it. its got your little code thing n all that hasnt it, so cant see how they could say you havnt posted it.

There will be no "little code thing" unless it went recorded or special delivery. even then, it is the sellers responsibility to ensure that the item gets to the buyer. scammers know this and by buying high value goods which only advertise first class post and no insurance and recieve paypal they can enter a paypal claim and have their money returned from the sellers bank account without any investigation. ( the only way round this is to empty the account that paypal take funds from and cancel the direct debit/standing order with your bank. which is how i have been scammed twice by members of this forum when buying things!!!!)

The problem in this country is that our postage system is so ..(family forum) Rubbish, that stuff does go missing all the time. I even sent some speakers by Parcel force which are tracked and they never got there!!!!!! i had to pay the customer back and claim moneis from parcel Farce but NEVER got my money back from the twisting sods.

The only way to beat this scams (if it is a scammer) is either not to accept paypal or, only advertise to send goods via recorded methods. Ebay are also cracking down on sellers who charge too much postage so either way, you can loose.
