dave1293 will back me up on this, whilst trying to setup his mini (with 2" play mini exhaust) so that it would start, we werent sure of the correct position for the plug leads as all were the same length n std positioning was wrong so we did the trial and error appoach, moved what we thought was no1 round n the others accordingly til it worked only this was 11pm in a posh-ish back road, so it goes like this

trying position 1 - turn key, spins over continuously, as u stop a little pop from the exhaust!! hmm not that 1,

position 2 - turn key, spins over shortly followed by a really really large flame shooting past my car jsut behind and a really loud bang!!, i mean zoom out to a satelite view n u see a mushroom cloud and a shockwave!!! then a defly silence!! hmm, maybe not that 1 either!!

position 3 - the battery was flat by now so jump leads out n my mini with minishop exhaust revving away happily making noise, we try again n this time im sure that flame moved his car further from mine n the bang BANG BANG was unbelieveble!! another defly silence, no1 is yelling at us yet!!

lastly position 4, and away she goes, foot to the floor to clear her throt n leave em both running for 10 minits whilst we get cleaned up n put tools away, etc etc

do u know how many peoply complained about us!!!! NOT ONE !!!!:- we were expecting the klu klux klan to come and kill us on his driveway all his mum said was "u got it going then" !!!!!!!!!!??!?!?! GO FIGURE WITH NOISE HATERS!!

I've been pretty surprised by some of the posts on this thread, I know there are a lot of crazy people out there but in my view a lot of complaints about noise etc are justified.
Surely you realise you're not the only people in the world? We are all very passionate about our cars on here, obviously, but we need to remember that other people have other interests. For eg.:If you have a kid you will know that this makes a huge difference and when you finally get him off to bed then a car revving its engine apparently unnecessarily outside your house can drive you up the wall - you feel at least as strongly about having your own rest, or protecting your kids from speeding motorists, as you would about the performance of your mini or whatever and anything that threatens this sets of a violent reaction in you, just as it does in the people on here who tell people to f off when they question their right to run their engines late at night in garages or whatver.
And people dont usually go off on one at the first opportunity, usually they'd put up with a little bit Im sure before coming round to say something.
So for f sake just listen to what theyre saying rather than dismiss it as out of hand. And of course this works both ways and there are crazy complainers - they are those who do go off on one at the tiniest little spanner being dropped without having consideration for the mini-owner's desires. Just like if you dont show any consideration or listen to another person's point of view then you are just as bad.
Most disputes can be worked out if people actually talk to each other without getting aggressive.
Thats my 2 cents im sure it will p*ss some of you off but if youre not rational enough to come up with a better argument than "f off" i dont give a tiny rat's arse about your opinion.
Like i say im surprised to hear some of these, i thought you lot on here were pretty sound. Altho dont get me wrong im sure there are some lunatic complainers out there!
Just remember altho your noise is nothing to you it can really make life hell for other people.

is'nt it funny how so many of us have has similar experiences?

last summer i was setting up the timing on a mates mini, granted whilst doing this there where a few pops and bangs and perhaps a few flames from the rear, but it was only like 7:30 at night (this is a time when it got dark at 10 ish) my nextdoor neighber came over burst into my garage and said '' you better F***ing stop that you TW**s, i have been in prison for les than this and i don't mind doing it again''

so as you can imgine i crapped my pants, then caried on.. next day i had loads of complaints about noise. i just said ''thanks for you input'.

i still make a little noise from time to time but no one says a word now.

weired...

just to add, i have an 18 month old and one on the way so i do know what it is like.

I try to be quiet i see an i see where you're comin from Cir-clipalot. Kinda impossible to argue with you, but all i can say is that a lot of us on here are inconsiderate teenagers who couldn't really give a rats ar*e? Agreed? Only time will change this. When i come home after 11 i turn the engine off an coast down the road does that help??? I'm afraid thats about as far as my consideration goes, if my car needs fixin there an then then i'm sure as hell guna fix it.
I've only ever had one complaint really...my mum!!!!!!

Hmm I never said I don't understand where they are coming from. Just that it was not a fact that I drive too fast around the neighborhood, and that is what pi**ed me off. Because I thought I was the only teenage driver that didn't do that. But yet they go complaining that I do. While really it is just the leaking exhaust. Which has been fixed today by the way due to MOT.

I live on a street full of old b*stard folk. ALL they do is complain.

They complain i park my car outside my house, they complain about me driving, complain about noise of tools working on mini, complain about noise of mini, complain about people visiting, complain about us not cleaning dog poo up outside our garden (we dont have a dog so why shud we clean what isnt ours).

There so petty its awfull. I purposly rev mini in garage so it echo's and annoys them now.

we have the same problem living on a nature reserve, we get all the bird watchers moaning about the speed and noise. they just think your going faster because of the sound.
when i used to drive my mini city along a road in st austell cornwall it set off a car alarm that was fun if we passed it a few times a day.

Look out, the old man is going to reminisce, everybody run away

When I had my Mini Cooper in 1964 (BFH203B, funny how I remember that but not what I had for breakfast)(ah, I haven't had any breakfast yet) the first thing to make it go faster in those days was take the wheeltrims off. Then polish it.

I used to open the back windows and drive up the hill out of Padstow (Cornwall) in second to hear the exhaust booming off the house walls. I went round and round doing it. I expect the old people inside the houses were p****d off.

Now I'm one of them I don't care about noise except children crying (makes me sad) and really really stupid music eg chav ice. Round here, the noisier the car the slower it goes. The fast ones are gone before you register them. Huey is noisier inside than out so I don't have to open the windows. There is a lot of yob aggro here but we're lucky to have quiet neighbours.

Live and let live. Life's short enough. Do something nice for an old person (euthanasia? Ooo, I didn't say that.) And obviously my mini motto is: If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. :P
