Firstly appologies if I've posted in the wrong forum section. I couldn't quite decide where was best!

Anyway....I'm thinking of buying a second hand SIP MIG wleder that is rated at 120 amps and uses GAS., oh and it works on 13amp mains feed.

Has anyone got any experience with these, worth buying or not? It's on eBay and is local to me and I'm willing to pay up to £100 or so for a second hand MIG otherwise I'll buy a new one and probably spend up to £250ish.

Cheers, Luke.

i hear alot about wire feed problems with them ? Also is most of them being gasless bad ? eg the weld is less stronger ?

Dunno mate, mine was always fine, and my last work had one also which was pretty good. I've never used gasless, don't really want to either! you can't get such a good weld apparently.

The one in particular I'm thinking of buying uses Gas, so that won't be a problem.

Thanks for the replies, I'll keep an eye on the auction and hopefully buy it.

Luke.

gas is always better, i used a sip one to weld my wing, it wasnt obviously as good as some are, but it did the job as long as you ensure you get the best earthing that you possibly can

Having used a few welders, big/small, gas/non gas..

I have generally found anything around 100 amp and over, with gas is good to use.

Always found those shoe-box portable with no gas welders rubbish.

Also, splash out and get argoshield gas rather than just co2 if you can get hold of it. Produces much better results!

I bought this one just before Christmas for my car project. No wire feed issues and really powerful. Does up to 5mm plate and can be set as low as 25 amps for light stuff like my exhaust system.

It was a recommended buy from Practical Classic mag.

Hi, SIP do have a reputation for wire feed probs, can be overcome with a few mods, for the hobby user Clarke are considered better.

For more info try
