I'm fitting a new alternator - Didn't have time to wait for delivery from minispares so bought a halfords one instead. The halfords one didn't come with a fan or a pulley.
So i'm trying to remove the fan and pulley from my old one. Obviously the nut holding them on is very tight and just spins round with the shaft.
How can i keep the fan still whilst trying to remove the nut? I've tryed putting a screwdriver through the blades and into the alternator but then holding the alternator body itself becomes a problem.
What can i do? Any suggestions?

Removing Alternator Fan And Pulley.

If you look at the nut end ot the shaft it should have a hex in it for an Allen key.

Right well its not got one of them. Anyway thats not the problem anymore i managed to get it off - Sat on the alternator, screwdriver jammed through the fan and beat the breaker bar with a hammer
Anyway now i've got it off the shaft on the halfords alternator is way too big and to be honest the 2 alternators look nothing alike! Soo annoying!
Cheers anyway - I'll have to go and get the right one now...

I bought one from halfords six months ago and that was alright. The problem is they use a computer to tell them what part is fitted to a certain car,, which is usually wrong plus the staff are usually ignorant.
It's a shame they don't use books anymore.
go and moan.

lol i know all that stuff - I work there! I see customers come back all the time wanting refunds on parts they bought because they were wrong. Where possible i ask customers to bring the part in so we can match it up - Apart from that theres no much else the staff can do.
