Well this evening i was opted to go and get the dinner from the takeaway so off i set too town, as im nearing the takeaway i need to park on opposite side so i nip across quickly as a car was coming and i stopped with my back end slightly out into the road because someone stepped out infront of me...i look in the rear view mirror and there is a car behind me trying to park aswell and they start beeping as i have a massive space infront of me but cant move.....so as you probs would do i give a rude hand gesture.....

Next second the car is along side me and its an unmarked police car....so i turn the engine off and get out as they asked and give them my details and they check over the car for road worthyness.....i ended up getting a fine under section 5 of the public order act for 'causing harrasment/alarm/distress by using abusive gestures in public'

So ive been absolutly kicking myself tonight for being soooo damn stupid

Anyway life story over

Should have asked them to fine the person behind you for unecessarily using their horn as well :tumble: unlucky on you though!

*rather than bump it i'll edit and make myself look silly :ermm: thanks for pointing that out Southy i missed it :ermm: i will just class it as the policeman is being a bit of a 'rear end' as he beeped at you which is a bit harsh! course swearing at the policeman isnt the way to go :D*

Its really bugging me this now as the more i think about it, the more i feel i was provoked into doing my actions due to his beeping, im not condoneing what i did was right, i know very much that i was wrong but i cant help but feel that i was done over here...I mean what would your personal reaction be too someone beeping you when you cant go anywhere?

Maybe he was signalling to pull you over? :tumble: hard to tell without being there.

Sounds like you got him on a bad night, couldn't you have offerd to get him a takeaway and sweep it all under the carpet :D

What was the gesture, could you have meant 'give me one or two minutes, I can't move yet" or could you have been gesturing to the car in front to hurry up, like that squaddie outside Buck palace? You could always report the copper for inappropriate use of his horn.

Possibly but i was already pulled over and awaiting to move up once the pedestrian was outta my way when he started beeping, he even said afterwards that he was beeping for me to move forward for him to get in....

I wish it was as easy to buy him a nice donna kebab and thats all would be soo much easier, but at least this wont be put on my record....or so he says

I'd definately report him then!

Isn't the horn used officially "to warn of your presence"? So in that case seeing as though he was in full view and didn't NEED you to notice him, as ethel says you could report him for inappropriate use of the horn... May as well play them at their own game, or else he'll keep assuming he's right and do it to others too

to be honest i cant remember what the gesture was, im pretty sure i just put my hand up as if to say 'Stop' but my two outter fingers have been broken in the past on my left hand and dont really go straight so i suppose in the dark it would look like giving a V sign

Just reporting him would cause move bother for myself and will incure more cost most likely, money i cant/dont want to fork out for.
