Hello peeps.
I have just bought and (eventually) fitted my new (second hand) HIF38. But it seems to have an AEM (definately what it said) needle fitted but was just curious of what its meant for as i cant find any records of it anywhere.I can find records of AE, AEB, AEC, AED, but not that. Its currently fitted to a 998 and runs (reasonably) well, but could do with a tune up or R/R session.
Anyways thanks for any ideas.

AEM was the standard needle in all 1275 Minis with HIF38 carbs from 1992 to the end of production.

Oooooooooo..
. I was thinking of the possibility of a custom profiled needle? As AE existed could it be a mis-stamp?
Baffled me this one. If i remember right the top of the needle is quite fat and very thin at the bottom, and sort of curves from top to bottom. never seen anything like it but i bet someone else has.

Why would it not show up in the link then? Just strange seeing as it was used for that many years.

Because for some reason you were searching on a website about MG and Triumph cars in the American market. They never used HIF carbs which employ entirely different needles from HS type carbs and so aren't on the list. If you want to know anything about any SU carb the best place to look is BFS, they make them after all.
