does anyone know name of stuff used to seal seams after welding. Any brands

now i'm going to get told off but i use decorators calk from a builders merchants

It's just called seam sealer. Get wet on wet stuff if you want to paint over it. There are loads of makes, quality doesn't vary very much really.

I'm also interested in some information on this stuff as there doesn't seem to be alot about.

your Local halfords will do it.
in a tin or cartridge for gun. in black and white i do believe.

Ask for a PU (polyurethane) seam sealer. Sticks like nothing on earth, but never quite sets, and takes paint fine. 3M do one, or there's Sikkaflex. Both excellent, not cheap, and only available from a proper paint factors.
