I don't want to sound dumn but i really don't know how to do this. Is there any special techniques to applying roof decals and bonnet stripes? Is it the soapy water method, or a heat gun or what?

When I put my cooper laurels on my mini all I did was Clean the panel with panel whipe and then heated the panel up with a heat gun and then applied them. And they are still there and not showing any signs of peeling off after 2 years

the soap and water method is easier as you can move it to line it up
the buy a rubber window squeegee to force the water out from under the decal

Im a bit late in adding to this post but the best way to apply your decal is to line the decal up by eye with the backing tape still on.
You then apply a line of masking tape along the top or bottom edge of the graphic. This acts as a hinge it allows you to move to the correct position without actually sticking it.
You can then remove the backing tape leaving the tape hinge. If it is a large graphic i use a squirt bottle with a light soapy solution and spray it on the adhesive side of the graphic then gentle smooth the graphic down starting at the taped edge and working over it evenly with a plastic squeegee. Dont use too much force just a firm pressure. When finished Spray the application tape if if it is the paper version heavily with the water solution it will soak in and make it easier to remove. leave to soak for about 10 mins.
You can then remove the application tape easily leaving the decal on the car if you have any bubbles gently try to push to the edge with the squeegee but dont force you will trap them. If they are minor they will go on there own within a day or two.
know im late but may help someone
